That's my mistake! I've been putting the wax on the filter. No wonder everything looks blurry.

I understand that they ditch themselves (or at least the covers do) if you drive in a spirited-enough manner

Just had mine removed when I replaced the head lights. Looks much better. Stupid things hadn't worked in like 10 or 15 years anyway after I got tired of replacing the nozzles.

I always figured it was just the fluid freezing in the winter that kept killing them, but I do tend to treat the gas pedal as an on/off switch...

How analog! My garbage is e-gas; my throttle is stuck at “1”

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

So I got my car back last week, with a shiny new IMS Solution. I'm pretty happy about that. Not super happy with my indy, so yet again I seem to have picked the wrong vendor. Luckily for me, I have an infinite amount of money to spend on the car. </sarcasm>

I won't call him out in public here, but DM me if you want to know who to avoid in the NNJ area. His crimes:

"Whoops, I broke the oil filler tube." We argued about this one for a while, he maintains it was brittle and on the way out.

The day I got it back, I ran a few errands and on the way home, the ABS light and battery lights came on. I didn't even head home, went right back to the shop. Alternator dead. Now, while its true that the alternator could be on the way out, I have a suspicion that something he did (belt not tight enough, too tight, what have you) caused it to go out. It is original, but my dash gauge has always shown a steady 14v. In any case, more arguing and he agreed to not charge me labor for replacing it. Don't look up what the part costs.

Car is running like a top (as usual) and I don't have to worry about the IMS anymore. Just the several other things.

If the oil filler tube was original to the vehicle, it very well could've been brittle. Engine compartment plastics in the 996 aren't the same as today's materials and the heat will cause them to get brittle and very fragile.

I got to experience this first-hand -- I had my filler tube and the infamous little plastic coolant fitting both break during a refueling stop / oil level check early on a Sunday morning on the first day of a five-day road trip. I was fortunate both failures were in (reasonably) accessible locations, such that I was able to McGyver repairs using some parts and duct tape from a nearby Home Depot and resume the trip after a 2-hour delay.

The 997 alternator fits and works, for considerable less money...

I wish I knew that then! I probably could have swapped an alternator out myself if I was able to diagnose it fast enough.
