Ordered a sub from Jersey Mike's and took the long way home. Car is much easier to drive!

Just for research sake, since I didn't find a ton of info: The clutches in Carreras are hydraulic, very much like a brake system, and in fact share the same fluid reservoir with the brakes (not true in turbos). They also have a master cylinder and slave cylinder, again just like brakes. My issue was with the master slave cylinder, which now seems to be fixed.

My symptoms: at first a "spongey" pedal. The only way to describe it is if there was a spring attached to the clutch pedal, that spring is now bent such that the pedal doesn't have the right resistance when you push it. This, I ignored because I don't trust my own judgement. A mistake. This was followed by an increase in pedal travel, such that the engagement point of the clutch moved closer to the floor, until I could no longer push the pedal far enough to engage reverse. This happened so gradually that I didn't really notice until recently and then it was too late. In any case, pumping the clutch pedal allowed me to get enough pressure in the system to engage reverse and get it out of the garage.

No, just the number 2. I used to work down in Point Pleasant Beach right near the original Jersey Mike's. I probably met the owner a couple times but I don't remember. Who knew. Now I'm a bennie.

A small piece of good news, car is done and I got away with just the master. Hmmm. I guess my new indy is honest?

Congrats on dodging a medium-sized bullet. Even if it needed a new clutch, there are worse things . . .

Thanks, and damn skippy. I went to the Giants' "Fan Fest" last night with my son and for a second on the highway I wondered why I needed to be in sixth, looked down and I was doing 90.

Either or both is better than an exploded pressure plate/clutch disc.

And I punted on this one because I was lazy. All it took was reading a couple posts about how PITA the slave cylinder was to get in.

I walked past it and took the Jeep to work today. It was hotter than Satan's butthole yesterday, and those flecks of blend door foam that come flying out when the fan is on high stick to sweaty skin.

Pretty sure you could hang meat in the Grand Cherokee w/ the AC on max...

While your humidity was somewhat high yesterday Satan's butthole is much hotter than 82f or so I've been told! We only hit 91f yesterday with similar humidity so I drove the crap out of mine with the windows down and no air on.

Hell! There is a All European car show Saturday and I'm hoping the forecast stays as projected. 84f with 64% humidity...Perfect!
