Yup it is indeed gloomy here today which is weird. Kinda fun in a way. Clouds are fun visitors for us that say "I could rain but not on youuuuuuuu ...goodbye I'm going to Nebraska!"
Enjoy the neighbor's pool!

In the 1965 Indy 500, Masten got a ride in a "British Racing Partners" Ford. For context, the "British Racing Partners" were basically a Formula-1 outfit, but were kicked out of Formula 1 in 1964. Their last gasp was to enter 2 cars in the 1965 Indy 500. So, it wasn't exactly a high-dollar outfit. Masten qualified, but started in the last row - spot 31 of 33 cars in the field. In the first 30 minutes of the race, Masten went from 31st place to 5th place. Not bad passing 25 other Indy drivers in 30 minutes. But, on Lap 59, his engine crapped out. Still, a pretty remarkable performance.32wildbilly wrote: ↑Tue Nov 16, 2021 5:10 am Unfortunately I do not remember Gregory(The Kansas City Flash) at the 65 Indy. I do see he passed a lot of cars but lost his engine during the race. I respect him for his skills and talent during a dangerous period of auto racing all while wearing "coke bottle" thick glasses. Seems my hero Clark had great respect for him, as well. I really love the "stand and bail" technique prior to an accident. That took cajones.
You must remember I was 14 years old, at my first ever Indy race and our seats were on the inside of turn three. We could see about 100 yards of the track and those cars came through pretty fast! One of my biggest lifetime thrills was after the race. Back then they would load the winner in the back of a convertible pace car and drive him around the track for the crowd. We got to crawl over the fence and go out to the apron to wave and cheer. I've got at least one fuzzy photo of Clark riding by and an a rock with asphalt stuck to it from the track. Heady times for a 14 year old kid.FRUNKenstein wrote: ↑Mon Nov 15, 2021 8:25 pm
You were at Indy for the ‘65 race? Do you recall anything about Masten Gregory’s run?
They re-used chassis for the next project back in those days, and the bodywork they just shitcanned. The bodywork and upholstery is all that remains of the car, and we have that exact 1965 Indy car in our museum - it is sitting directly underneath the chair I am sitting in right now. The bodywork was actually saved by a dumpster-diver from California who had it sitting in his garage for roughly 50 years. He donated it to us right before his death. We had a Boy Scout build a wooden chassis mock-up to mount the bodywork on for his Eagle Scout project.

THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME!!! So great that the dumpster diver saved the bodywork. Very cool that you guys had it put back together for display! Truly a piece of history.
BTW the piece I read on his Indy race was that he passed 14 cars on the first lap!!! Totally unheard of...! That's 14 cars in 2.5 miles with the 33 cars all in a cluster. Holy Crap! He, apparently, had zero fear genes.

That's the advantage of having that bazillion square foot building in your town(well actually Otay Mesa and I still love that name). Are they going to do a drone drop?
