That's interesting - so I'm guessing option #2 in this case is a DIY project?

Something you could try prior to committing to a repipe is a cooling system rust remover (e.g. CRC's Thermocure rust remover). It could get rid of enough of that gack that the existing piping could remain.
Proud owner of a Flat6-powered 2002 996 Cab, 2016 GT4, 2019 Ford F-150 "Country Cadillac", and 2005 Ford Focus (not so hot hatch) daily driver. And a Wright ZTO 52" to keep several acres of grass-like substance neat and tidy!

Yes, option 2 would be DIY. I think the time and talent required are within my parameters.Dr_Strangelove (whew!) wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 3:17 pm That's interesting - so I'm guessing option #2 in this case is a DIY project?
Option 1 would require me to buy a welder and try to learn how to use it - so I'd basically turn myself into Schnelly, Jr. And we can only tolerate one of him on the planet at a time.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of that. I just search XWeb Forums, and there are a couple of references to using it to clean out the engine block. I'll have to post up over there to see if anyone has used it to get rid of cooling pipe rust, since that is a common problem on the X1/9. Thanks for the tip!02TX996Cab wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 5:43 pm Something you could try prior to committing to a repipe is a cooling system rust remover (e.g. CRC's Thermocure rust remover).
