Porsche Windshield Replacement - really good article

Post by FRUNKenstein » Mon Sep 18, 2023 6:21 am

The 2018 Macan Turbo I just bought came with a cracked windshield, so I am replacing it out of pocket. Here’s a link to a great article that I came across with a ton of good info:

I went with Safelite as they do the recalibration necessary for the Macan, and chose the aftermarket glass. According to the article, Safelite’s aftermarket glass is made by OE manufacturers for BMW, Audi and Range Rover.

Aw, crap, now I have to go out to the parking lot to look.

The one thing I'm not happy about is that when I booked the appointment, I had a $45 promo code that they didn't apply when they ran my credit card BEFORE I came to pick up the vehicle. I verified in the shopping cart that it was a valid promo code and got a final price with all charges included. But, they charged the full price on my credit card before I arrived at the shop. So, I had to scrounge up the promo code (thankfully I had made a note of it) and give it to the guy at the desk, who couldn't do anything about it because the manager wasn't in. Not a huge deal, but kind of a PITA that ended an otherwise pleasant purchase process.

I've had many a Safelite repair on many a vehicle and I have to say the only complaints I can lodge are to the installer. Had one guy use the divine vision of Methamphetamine to glue my rear view mirror back on my old Acura. One guy did a really bad job putting the outer trim back on my old Audi and I lost a piece on the highway when it blew off. All other installs have been solid and never noticed anything off about the glass quality.

Oh and the reason why I've had so many is in the desert southwest there are rocks everywhere. I mean everywhere.
