Six years ago. Wowza!

I'm just happy I can remember that far back.

Went to smog the 991... failed 1st time, as some "readiness" monitors weren't set. Spent 6 hours yesterday doing this drive cycle 5 times, and passed today. What at PITA! Happy Hanukkah!

I'm going to have to do some reading as I don't understand this stuff. If a car is functioning and running properly why would you have to do this type of silly jitter jive to get the car ready for a cpu plug in check of systems? Not just your car Cuda as I've read this concerning various car brands.

Sounds almost like another DieselGate by the car companies.

Billy, more modern vehicles have far more stringent emissions requirements imposed by those wise people at the EPA and CARB (for those stuck in the People's Republic of California). Those requirements not only dictate the level of emissions, but also what those emissions have to be under a wide variety of driving modes. The various "hold" points that Cuda shared are those that correspond to the driving modes a 991 (late 20-teens) had to meet vis-a-vis emissions. In comparison, the requirements for our 996's are quite a bit simpler, with only a couple of "hold" points in the driving cycle needed to make the DME tell the "authorities" that the car's ready for testing. IIRC it takes only a couple of <30-minute drives to make a 996 ready to test.

I'm blessed with living in a small/rural county in TX where emissions testing is not required. In my experience from living in CA for over 3 decades before I escaped, the whole CARB testing scheme was a way for shops to fleece motorists and for the state to build yet another bloated bureaucracy whilst delivering (IMHO) minimal benefits--there were plenty of shops that had creative ways to get nearly any car to pass for the right "fee".

Same except I live in mid-sized city Kneebraska.

Before we retired we lived in the Chicago burbs and I had to get my 1993 Nissan 300zx smog tested. Due to it's age they had to do a "dyno" test. I watched as they set the device up which included placing a large barn fan in front of the car. The radiator intakes on that car were far below the fan's output and sure enough when I got back in the car after passing the test the temp gauge was just coming off the pegged position. I showed the "tech" and said "I'll be back if/when the engine blows up." The guy had no effing idea what he was doing. Lucky for him and the state the Z lived through it. I guess the comments about the "truck" engine in Z cars being bullet proof are correct.

Only the "right fee" deal there will always be the one's who will figure out a way to make additional money

It's pretty amazing that the ladies in the car we stopped to help didn't spear into the end of the guardrail and instead slid sideways between the back of the guardrail and the rock face. I'm no spiritual guy, but they could have gotten wiped out three different ways on Friday. As I was shouting at them to move further away from the highway shortly after we arrived, a pickup slid into the other side of the guard rail they were standing behind, clipped it HARD, and kept going.

Anyway...that's what you get for being a good Samaritan! :D
Glad to hear you guys are uninjured. Human version of PeePeeEye as he's watching an out of control car careening toward him:

So, the most recent Macan showed up on the transport truck at 11:00 pm last night. This is one that I'm planning to drive for the winter. One thing I liked about it was that the previous owner appeared to be an enthusiast as there were several tasteful mods done to it: carbon fiber steering with matching garnet leather, he went into the computer to activate the turbo pressure gauge for the instrument panel (it's in the software for all of the Macans, but only the "Turbo" models leave the factory with it displayed), and so forth.

The car was filthy as it was on an open transport coming all the way from Seattle, so I actually ran it through the car wash last night at midnight (don't tell me you guys wouldn't have done the same thing). It was late and I was tired. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. This morning, I go out to the driveway to look it over in the light of day, and I see this:

Well, it needs breaks on all 4 corners anyway, so looks like I'll be repainting the calibers at the same time.

Hard to see in the pic but are those pink calibers or just red ones that have been overheated? "Tasteful" very "tasteful" indeed.
