02 Roller Landed in My Lap!
02 Roller Landed in My Lap!
124K miles, owner spent a bunch on maintaining, upgrades, imsb, rms, wp etc. Son was driving it and it lost power, chk eng light came on and no restart attempted. Dad's over it and want's it gone. He wanted $7.5K, I offered him $5K (he just pay'd the $8k balance off)
What did I just get my self into?

Hawaii??? Where you live 808?
Beautiful car; just hope the engine is not toast for your sake.

Yup, right here in the state. I too hope it's not toast but figure at $5K it's better than spending $17K+ and having it turn into toast.
I expect toast but could get lucky.
Now I need to get some codes read!

Something is missing in the story from the dad. I call BS on being over it and just dumping it with loan present.
First, get the CEL codes; could be something as simple as sensor dying. Two, drain the oil and pull out the filter to see if there is any metal present. If there is no metal present, that should be fairly positive. Three, try to rotate engine by hand...see if there is any resistance or if rotates freely.

He's put $17K into it since he's had it 3 or 4 years, he's done...I'll know more tomorrow when he fly's in for a Co. meeting.Kalashnikov wrote: ↑Fri May 25, 2018 9:28 pm Something is missing in the story from the dad. I call BS on being over it and just dumping it with loan present.

I did find it odd that on 4/13 they changed plugs and coil for cylinder #1. I told him to bring all his receipts and maintenance records. Stay tuned!

At $5k it is a low risk deal for you Bill. You can dump it back for that if it is fatal or part it out for double that if you are patient. Those C2 wheels are in demand, you could get $1,000 for them alone depending on wheel condition.

Re: 02 Roller Landed in My Lap!
Since it's a HI car, is it too soon for a "fire sale" joke?
Feel bad for the PO, but I've been there. I dumped a car for $500 over a $30 part after I had spent $8k on it in the preceding 6 months. At some point enough is enough.
I know we talk about parting as an option, but is that still true for a car in HI? Don't they get screwed in shipping costs to/from the mainland and I'd expect a more limited market there on the islands too.
