Re: The dreaded oil filler tube
BaT would be a good spot for your targa. Several 996Ts have done well on there.
Goob luck!

Re: The dreaded oil filler tube
Two things on oil filler tube replacement: It is 100% certain you will bust the little coolant hose connector just to the right of the alternator so have a replacement on hand. Second is disconnect the battery...those are live wires on the back of the alternator!
Re: The dreaded oil filler tube
Thanks for the tip. What parts will I need to have on hand, if you know?DBJoe996 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 9:40 am Two things on oil filler tube replacement: It is 100% certain you will bust the little coolant hose connector just to the right of the alternator so have a replacement on hand. Go to Lowes and get this https://www.lowes.com/pd/B-K-1-4-in-x-1 ... 1000253681 I broke that some time ago. Cut the hose and slip the adapter with a couple worm gear clamps. I zip tied the assembly to where the broken bracket was.DTMiller wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 9:58 amThanks for the tip. Post #5 seems like the way to go.
Here's a beefed up fitting for that little break-prone coolant hose connection.

Re: The dreaded oil filler tube
When I did my replacement, I had to remove the air box, alternator, throttle body, and the piece that connects the throttle body to intake manifolds. Just a reminder to also replace the O-ring that goes on the bottom of the oil filler tube.
I broke the aforementioned piece, and replaced it with a Rauch & Spiegele replacement.

Re: The dreaded oil filler tube
Yes, I did exactly the same. That damn thing has been the bane of my existence for a very long time. I also replaced the bottom section of hose when I put the Rauch & Spiegele fitting on. I always thought the brass hose fitting and zip tie was a little bit ghetto, works but just seems "not right" for the caliber of the car. My new oil filler tube came with the O-ring on it, plug and play. I don't exactly remember but I think it came with a new cap as well. Or maybe I ordered that cap at the same time. Hmmmm...sweet victory wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 10:39 am When I did my replacement, I had to remove the air box, alternator, throttle body, and the piece that connects the throttle body to intake manifolds. Re: The dreaded oil filler tube
Thanks guys, I'll get the parts ordered and then we can all laugh together as I screw it up along the way.
