Of the original 996.2, the 997S, and the 996.1 cab, this C4 is the best of all of them in terms of my confidence and comfort with the car. The steering is a little heavier than I remember on the others, and could either be the slight extra weight...or my imagination...its been three years since I've driven one. Even with my own shortcomings, I prefer the throttle response of the 3.4 manual to the tiptronic 997S and the 996.1 cab. And I prefer it to the 996.2 3.6 engine and manual as well. If I had been smart and knew what I was doing, I would have been wiser to just do the IMS bearing with the Solution in the 3.6 and been done with it. But I wasn't and didn't. That said, I am very happy now.

I haven't driven C2s enough to notice, but a heavier steering feel would make since given the extra weight both up front as well as attached to the wheels.

While the 3.6 is more powerful, it seems that everyone I've heard from that has significant time in both seems to like the way the 3.4 produces it's power more.

My new to me roll bar cover arrived today. After about 15 minutes of work I know longer have pieces that will fly off when the top is down.

Roger -
Will you be in St. Louis or NC in October? Reason I ask is that the Kansas City Region PCA has an event that is sponsored by 996outpost.com on October 10th. It is a combination driving and social event. Should be a lot of fun. Might be worth making the trip for.

I was surprised how much lighter the steering felt after I butchered the front CV joints and deleted the FWD components on my C4.

The C4 chassis is REALLY stiff - definitely the stiffest/least creaky sports car I've ever owned...

Agree that the C4 chassis feels very stiff...almost like the C2 with H&R springs that I drove earlier in my hunt. Certainly stiffer than the other C2s I drove. It is stiff but the ride is not harsh.

In the meantime, when I took delivery of the car there were two very very small chips in the windshield and today I had Safelite repair them.

Finding my seat position makes a big difference in how I control the throttle and the clutch...so I keep going out for drives just to play with the car and work on my take off from stop and also down shifting with and without double clutching and also with heel and toeing. I didn't realize how passive I had become with the automated transmissions. I remember how I used to throw my 993 into the canyons and work the rpms and gears by second nature. So the goal is to get back to that level of comfort and skill.

Brought the 928 home from The Underground and plan to drive it to a couple of events this Saturday. So, the 996tt went up on the rack tonight. Tucked 4 of the hooptie fleet into bed for the night.

If you had room for one more four post lift your garage would look like the insides of a Sardine can.

You have the car disease bad.

Oh, I tried for a 3rd, but the wife refuses to park underneath a lift. I think either the X1/9 or the 914 would stack over her Durango.

I actually have another electric lift in the garage - you can see part of it on the left edge of the photo where the red gas can is. It is a lawnmower lift, so I guess technically I could park the 914 on it. :D

Maybe it's just the appearance of the pic being fish-eyed, but it looks like there is no way to back the Durango out without knocking both outside mirrors off. Just an optical illusion right? Either that or I'm having a flashback...
