Ouch. I hate to come across as hurtful, but that's a sloppy job. The wheels are a little better than the calipers, but still, he should have taking a little more time to prep in order to get it better. As you mentioned, the best solution for painting wheels is to remove the tires and have them powder coated. They won't powder coat the plastic caps, but usually you can get standard auto paint that will come close in look. I usually remove the Porsche crests and paint the caps separate and then reglue them to the caps.808Bill wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 2:08 pm The self proclaimed "perfectionist is at it again...Poor guy can't get a break.

At least he's consistent!
I rattle canned some 5 point Carrera II wheels standard silver for resale and could not get the paint perfect. The next owner loved them, but I guess I'm just too picky when it comes to painting. I've painted other things like trim, but still have a high respect for professional paint/body shops. It's definitely an art form to get it right and really not that costly if you think about it. I had my local shop respray my front bumper for $300. It looked perfect and matched up correctly. Even with the arctic silver met. they did slam dunk job. Couldn't tell the difference in shade/color between the hood and bumper. I've seen many poor examples where the bumper was a slightly different shade of color. Ugh.

You mean like if you go back to this nitwit's first thread and see his pho-4S bumper that isn't color matched correctly?
That poor car is all kinds of fubar in so many ways. Wonder if he still only has the 1 red caliper or if hey got around to screwing the other 3 up too...

When I rebuilt the calipers on the 928 I got them powder coated and they came out great. I know my limitations, and spray painting stuff is one of them.b3freak wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 6:59 amOuch. As for Brian, he should have taken a little more time with those calipers and why the heck do you spray paint the wheels with the center caps still on them? For a perfectionist, he sure is taking a lot of shortcuts. Then he posts the pictures and gets mad at the reactions.

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com
He could have just gotten 996TT calipers if he wanted red, at least the white Porsche would display. The center caps are terrible, just caked on layers of paint. Poor crest... just tacky as 808 says.
I’ve done rattle can on wheels before and have to echo b, it’s better left for a pro, if it’s any vehicle you care about anyway. Paint and bodywork is an art.

Re: Good Week @ 996Outpost.com
Rattle can calipers screams "I want the color so I look cool, but I can't/won't spend money to do it right".
Putting Turbo/4S calipers on a NB car is not a cheap prospect since it's more than just the calipers you have to replace. In his case he'd even need new wheels (which would be for the best at this point) since his 17s wouldn't fit over the bigger brake setup (and I think different et offsets are required too?).
Other than what to do with a brake-less car for the duration, pulling them and sending them for powder coating would be much cheaper and look 1000 times better.
I hope he at least used the proper paint rather than just a regular rattle can...

Thanks for the tech, I figured it was not straight bolt on.
