Third AutoX was yesterday. Still learning and now tinkering with tire pressures in the front. Makes a huge difference! Like another participant yelled at me on the starting line "Drive Faster!" She said this with a big smile. This was the first event that I ran with the nannies turned completely off and in +R mode. Still have a lot of learning to do, but this is still so much fun.

I have a crappy vid the oldest kid took when he stopped by, however it is .3pg and I have absolutely no knowledge of how to convert it to get it to attach here!!

What tires are you running? 200 or so tread wear rating is good for AX. Shoot for about 32 psi when hot.

I just grabbed a set to these to remove the all seasons I had on it 245/35ZR-20 FALKEN AZENIS FK510 XL I think they are 300TW so not what a 200TW would provide. I started at 35psi and chalked the tires. After the first two runs the chalk looked good. The next two when I upped the aggressiveness the chalk on the upper part of the sidewalls was pretty much gone. Since we run in groups(i.e.: one group runs back to back runs of four) there is little time to tinker in between runs. While I didn't get the feeling of much roll over(understeer?) I put 2 more #'s in to eliminate the indicated roll over. Big mistake as the second group of runs while the chalk condition improved I could definitely tell the difference in adhesion although times did not suffer! Maybe I was just over driving it. Oh well, live and learn.

I would be most interested on your input on tire roll over.

As a reminder this is parking lot stuff. Some speed(est.45-60mph I haven't had time to look at tach/speedo!) but a lot of tight corners, gates and slaloms. Smaller than the typical SCCA Slalom courses. All second gear stuff and have never hit the rev limiter in second.

Yesterday was AutoX four for me and the Type R. I had added some air pressure in the rear tires to try to unhook them and prevent understeer when diving into higher speed turns. SUCCESS! Timed in squarely mid-pack which was my goal for the year. I did not feel that I was going to lose the rear but could tell the car was rotating better on entry. Still need some more turn in but that is going to require some front suspension changes, tires and a stiffer rear stabilizer bar if I decide to go crazy. It was so much easier to adjust a sprint car for over/under steer than a street car as you could move wheels in or out at the proper position to fix any issues...sigh.

Another thing I learned yesterday. A Viper is NOT a good AutoX car. Dude showed up all nose in the air about himself and the car. Opened the hood up in the "pits"...etc. Ran three of the eight times available none of which was faster than the stock Prius that showed up said his helmet was giving him a headache then left. Any time he tried to accelerate the car would would lose traction/get sideways even with ginormous tires all the way around.

Before you ask I was much faster than the Prius...

I'm 71 years old half blind with a brain addled by excess alcohol for over 38 years in addition to being damaged by 35 years of stress working in senior management for a major RR and have never raced anything on asphalt much less a turbocharged over horse-powered Civic with a boi racer wing hung on the trunk lid.

Yesterday was the final AutoX for the year with this club. There were 18 cars there and I had the seventh fastest time! My goal for the year was to be "above the fold" and I made it! It was @45f and cloudy so traction was minimal to sat the least. I had lowered the air in the front tires to 33# with the rears still at 35# to loosen the car up. The fronts chalked good after all five laps so no rollover. Still had some push in the higher speed corners but it was manageable(yea for front wheel drive).

I can't wait for April! Over the winter I'm considering some minor suspension changes...guess we'll see just how deep this rabbit hole goes. I'm pretty stoked.

Nice! The season's over for me here, too, and like you I can't wait for next year.
With my front wheel drive car I find that either a touch of left foot braking or a stab at the gas followed by a quick lift can create weight transfer to the fronts and give that little bit more grip when I need it.

Thanks. I'll put that in my notes to try. Do you typically two foot drive during AutoX? Seems to make sense to me but haven't tried it yet.
