Yea, even as bad as Frys was for customer service, they did have a lot of stuff you couldn't get easily anywhere else. There are a few mail order/online places, but nothing beats browsing the shelves. At Frys, you just had to be very wary of anything that was not factory sealed. More often than not they would shrink wrap and put a new lable on returns without testing.

After years of loving having stuff sent straight to my door I fell in love all over again with having something not the next day, but instantly, because I went to the store and looked at the options and walked out with my favorite in my hand. Heh. Also, it paid to beware mark-down stickers - the other indication that an item was returned in "resalable condition."

At Frys, you just had to be very wary of anything that was not factory sealed.

Best Buy is good about price matching, too. It's just fine for consumer stuff, but it's no replacement for Fry's when you need a power supply for a 15-year-old PC or that unicorn USB-to-DVI-to-SATA-to-Ethernet-via-HDMI adapter...

I was tremendously disappointed when I drove my 986 to Phoenix for an emergency customer site visit ages ago...I saw THREE Fry's stores in AZ on the way in, only to learn the bitter truth about those useless doppelgängers.
