Windshield washers not working
Windshield washers not working
Hey, anybody have any tips? Fluid is full and motor makes the whirring noise, but no water shoots out jets. Before I start taking things apart, hoping to get some guidance. Thanks in advance!!

Try sticking a needle in the tips to free any debris. Sometimes they just get clogged.

The pump (11) is essentially pumping air out of the hoses to create a vacuum that draws water through hoses 17 and 18, and finally 19 and 20. I believe 16 is the "filler hose" that allows water to travel from the filler neck (3) to the tank (1). Since you are not getting water to shoot out of either nozzle I would suspect 17 or 18 has a crack someplace that is breaking the vacuum and not allowing the water to travel past a certain point. Perhaps go looking for moisture on the outside of those hoses and see if you can find the leak. You may need a partner to activate the pump and see if you can spot a little dribble. There is always a chance that the pump itself has a crack in it that is not allowing a vacuum to be formed as well. It may be in your best interest to start at the pump and work your way upward. Between dry/cracked plastic and dry/rotted rubber it's a dice roll which failed first. Because this area of the frunk sees mild heat compared to the engine bay I'm suspecting a dry or cracked hose before the plastic.

Yep, try the simple fix first. If that don't work, I will check the lines. Thanks fellas!

Run the pump for 15-20 seconds and check for newly-forming in unusual places - the plastic tubing joints come apart as they age.

Re: Windshield washers not working
Mine became disconnected so that the pump was not sending liquid to the windshield spouts but just dumping out of the car and onto the ground.
Take off left front wheel and fender liner and look for where the connection has come apart. No broken parts on mine, just needed to be reconnected. I also found one of the nozzles on my left headlight washer was gone. Had to buy a whole unit for that side. Just remove the headlight to install it.

Re: Windshield washers not working
I'm sorry...I am a moron. Let me first apologize for being an engineer and working on stuff the last 64 years. Okay then. Now someone explain to me how to spray liquid on the windshield with vacuum. I can understand a pump that works on vacuum and then pressurizes lines with liquid that thus sprays out jets. But in this case I would think the windshield washer pump is electric and simply pressurizes liquid in the lines and out the spray nozzles.
Re: Windshield washers not working
I think the term "vacuum" is being misused herein to describe situations where the pump is losing its prime because the pump inlet tubing is compromised. I probably contributed to this in comment 6 by referencing "vacuum" when I was bemoaning the use of the same crappy plastic plumbing in both of my "vintage" 90's sports cars.

Oh if all fixes were this simple. I'm starting to like this car......
Re: Windshield washers not working
Those fittings suck ass - but it could be worse...they could have been made out of the same plastic as the headlight harness insulation.
