So in today's episode of "Ya never really know." I was pulling into work today, still DDing the 996 because my wife's birthday got in the way of A4 repairs, and the young security guard whom I know well yelled "DUDE! You are making me SO JEALOUS with this FERRARI!"

I laughed so hard and said (like a typical, typical, typical pedant) "Thank you! It's a Porsche..."

Forget the headlights, fellas, we've upgraded to Ferrari status with Joe Public.

I played with bands that sucked, but we never sucked THAT bad.

I played bass for a band that "headlined" the annual Girl Scout spaghetti dinner social back when it was appropriate for a band of grubby young men and one butch chick to perform for girl scouts (for the record, I was not the butch chick). I remember trying out a new mini-bass and questioning my life choices that evening...but we did not cover "The Final Countdown."

That was the same year the high school A/V department realized we'd been borrowing and returning (and occasionally blowing up and repairing) equipment even though we were no longer in high school. Hey, they never asked.

That reminds me of my one and only, and very short lived, band experience. I think we were freshmen in high school, maybe sophomores. We bought some surplus school PA speakers and tried to turn them into a guitar amp (with little success). We had no vocalist and no women (not even a butch chick). I think we had a lead guitar, a bass guitar, a drummer, 3 trumpets, a trombone and an alto sax. We were very loud. One of the other trumpet players was really bad at keeping tempo with the rest of us - he was always about a beat ahead and gaining. I remember having 3 or 4 rehearsals, but I don't think we ever had an actual gig. I also think we discovered girls, weed and beer about that same time, all 3 of which were more interesting than our "band."

Mrs. S. used to have to bring her Dad along to get her into one of the 21-and-over shitholes (Goodies Nightclub in Costa Mesa) we played semi-regularly. He was a good sport...and didn’t seem to mind the excuse to hang out in a decidedly non-Mormon environment.
