HOLY CRAP!!

That must be the "a cylinder head was found 300 feet away." situation. If I did this you would have to drive me to the hospital for a new shoulder...STAT! Did you notice that the recoil pushed everything/including Jake back plus cleaned all the dust off of the mat!!

That wasn't your engine...right? Are you sure...?
300ft? Naw, more like 300 yards! Hahaha... thank goodness it wasn't my engine. At least I hope my engine doesn't need Raby 50 cal treatment. Part 2 of the Bore Scoring series is ready and waiting for Jake's approval to go public. Maybe next week? I hope so.

Yea, I saw that one. Jake seems to document everything either through photos or videos. No telling how many of these iPad videos he has on digital archive. Looks like Bronz agreed to let him post it publicly? From reading that thread, it also seems Jake doesn't contribute as much to the 997 crowd because of the constant fear mongering label that pisses him off. Hard to dispute the evidence though.

Yeah, seems like much of that crowd is in denial about the possibility of their cars being mortal. Stick head in sand and maybe it will all be ok...

Speaking of fear mongering, last year I was at a Cars and Coffee event and the owner one of the local Porsche specialist shops walked up and said "You know you have a ticking time bomb there with that 996 of yours, I can fix the IMS on it so you dont have to worry about it again..." I was flabbergasted that the guy could not tell the difference between a M96 car or a 996 turbo...let alone trying to sell me on an IMS job on my 6TT.

I responded with "That is interesting, your offer to replace the IMS on my Mezger engine because it is a 996 show that you dont even have the first clue about Porsches other than the brand. Perhaps you should stop working on them before you fuck someones poor car up or charge them for something that did not need to be done."

Twats.

THAT is scary. A shop that supposedly works on Porsches and actually has to solicit business is scary.

Yea, no doubt about it. Can't tell you how many times people have said the reason the Mezger 996 cars don't suffer from IMS bearing failure is because of the lack of an intermediate shaft. Even saw a sponsored article on RL say it. I pointed it out to Raby and you should have seen his response. hahaha Personally, I think they're getting the Mezger engines confused with the 9A1 platform where Porsche eliminated the shaft altogether.

Yeah it is straight up silly. The lack of understanding motors seems to be at heart of this, so thus the Mezger doest not have IMS issues does not mean it does not have an intermediate shaft. Hell even VR6's have them, but the bearing are not sealed but can still wear out like any other mechanical component.
