I never watched this show, but did they really call a Boxster a chick car? I mean, its a convertible I guess. There are a lot of other ones they could have chosen like a Miata.
On a related note, the oldest is two years away from her license. Is it wrong of me to be excited about picking out a car for her? I'm thinking sub-$10K, on the larger side (for safety) although I bet I could find a Boxster at that price especially an auto. Probably end up with a Jeep.
My kids first car was a 318is super safe, handled great, great brakes, small NA 4 cyl. Plenty of power once its going, not a speed demon from a full stop. Great first car for a kid
I think that's what I'm talking about. Something I, as a car guy, am not going to mind sitting in the driveway even though the kid does not give af. I'm driving the Honda winter beater after surgery to my clutch leg and I want to wear a disguise.

When I looked at the condition report (which lists the problems that the cars have), I came across a notation that said "Right Front Tire Worn - Replacement Required." Front headlight enclosures all cleaned up. It's amazing what a little Windex will do!

Crap, that reminds me. I gotta work on my left headlight between now and Sunday morning at 6:00 am when I go to the All German Car Show here. At least I don't have a high school football game tonight and tomorrow's LSU-Mizzou football game in Columbia to attend between now and then.

Going to meet with him today and pick up the 996.
Seems like the car has a clean bill of health or I would have known about it by now. The AOS checked out fine. The water pump is new. Fluids have been flush and refilled. Belts, battery, etc replaced. Coil packs/plugs still have plenty of life.
Now, the big one is cylinder bore scoring.
This is a '99 model with lokasil I and has ferrorstan pistons.
Why does that matter?
The first thing that starts the downward spiral of cylinder bore scoring is the loss of piston skirt material. The later "Ferroprint" has proven to be horrible piston skirt material causing the process to start early and progress fast. That's why the 996.2 and 997.1 cars suffered horribly from the problem. Once you lose the piston skirt material, it's game over. Al to Al contact. The earlier cars with Ferrostan and Lokasil I weren't as prone as the later 996/997 Lokasil II/ferroprint cars that suffer from the problem and that's one reason why Raby always prefers the early 99 model. He's seen too many of the other.
There's more to the story that I'm happy to share later once I get the car. It's fascinating.

I know a guy who is very good at fixing bore scoring so no problem if there is scoring...

Yeah I was going to ask which one was his. They are very cool cars. Speedway Motors had a similar event this summer and it included a "hill climb". It was very cool.
