Is the 996.1 going to become the new Bitcoin?

Yesterday a plain jane 92. C2 with 71k miles, sold for $93k. Today, a 93 928 GTS (automatic trans) with 91k miles, sold for $53.5k. Yes, they made more of the 996...but many of those have disappeared into age and neglect. And the 996 is the better car. I think the recent $55k for the 996 in a rare color, was hint that there is much more room for gain in the average prices...probably in the low 30s now on BaT. A $40k 996.1 is not far away...maybe by late summer. And it will still be too soon to sell by a couple of years.

I've said for ages that the 996 is a special car because of it's history: First water-cooled 911... first GT3... Last 911 that Ferry Porsche witness to go into production. The car(s) that "saved" Porsche. etc. etc.

Even in spite of the engine issues, it will still bring a special coin eventually, especially the rare versions like the GT2, GT3RS, or '05 Turbo S.

I believe the headlights will ultimately become a plus rather than a negative on the 996 series, especially the Mk I cars with the GT1 headlights. The Mk I aerokit cars are one of the best looking 911s ever made.

Yea, the demand for the flatnose 911 and 914 have proven people like weird.

Yeah, it's kind of like the "Rennlist (dammit)" Easter egg we have here, except more reliable.

Why? I have never wanted a yellow car and that one was never his to sell.

He may not know funny, but he does have good taste in NA 996s.

Bitcoin is a fictitious currency backed by nothing tangible - whereas the 996 is, at least, a fungible token that should retain SOME intrinsic value against other currencies.

Also, Elon Musk has never had plans to accept 996.1's as payment for a Tesla.

So no, I do not believe that the 996.1 will become the new Bitcoin.

I would prefer Elon not get involved in the 996 market. Prices will sky rocket, he'll say something truthful to be funny, and the prices will tank again.
