Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
I checked the tire pressures and decided to raise them to the OEM specs, even though I'm running non-stock size tires (245/40, 275/40/18). I told the guy at the tire shop to set them at 35 psi all around when I had them mounted, but they were all at 32psi cold today.
Set now at 36psi front/44psi rear
it was raining on the way to work tonight so I couldn't really evaluate it..but it was still fun. Steering feels more direct though, and not really any rougher than it was before. Will report back later

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
I.....I....I....didn't drive my car today! It sat in the garage all day. I was working on the Wife's Mini. New wheels installed, hub centric rings, new caps, new Mini valve caps, etc. I should be fired from Porsche ownership. I am so ashamed. The 996 was parked next to it and all my attention was on the Mini. I'm sure it is going to puke the IMSB next time I start it...or something. Did I mention I am ashamed?
Not really. The new Enkei wheels look awesome on the Mini. Just taking care of the Wife cuz she just loves that little Mini. I even got her Mini valve stem caps.
I did clean the bird poop off the 996. Why do birds always poop on it?

Hey Joe, how is Mini ownership? My wife really wants one but I'm getting mixed reviews from past owners and an indy close to me.DBJoe996 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 18, 2018 11:23 am I.....I....I....didn't drive my car today! Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
Not to bad actually. I wrench it myself and throw parts at problems, because compared to the Porsche, the Mini parts are cheap. I always replace with OEM parts and we have a Mini dealer nearby. I would stay away from the S/Turbo models. They seem prone to the biggest problems. Ours is a stock 2007 automatic. Cool sport mode! Tightens the suspension, steering and puts the engine in sport mode. It will really get up and move. Problems - thermostat housing (plastic with molded in thermostat), breaks because of heat cycles, expansion tank, water pump (old pump plastic impeller, new pump metal impeller) and friction wheel, new serpentine belt, new plugs and coils at 50K miles (just cuz), valve cover and seal (I was checking the timing chain upper guide and replaced the chain tensioner with upgraded tensioner). I've never added it up but I figure about $1500 in parts in ten years of ownership. Aside from standard oil changes and tires. It has been a daily driver and is a damn solid car. I have hauled everything from sod to back porch furniture to 16 bags of mulch.
Just like with many forums, most of the people are there because of a problem or issue, so you only hear the bad side of things. Our little Mini is much loved and has been a great car.

Overslept and still got my daughter to camp merely 10 minutes late. Spirited driving FTW.

By DTMiller's definition, everyone was spirited driving this morning on the 405.

Re: What did you do to/with your 996 today?
New CSF radiators have been installed. My 996 is once again liquid-cooled. The car is now in the burp-valve, garage-reeks-of-coolant stage of cooling-system repair. As far as I’m concerned, it smells like victory.
I celebrated by changing the oil and doing a bunch of Little Bullshit Stuff. Like replacing the Crappy Old Double-Sided Tape under my passenger-side stainless steel sill trim. It is now held securely in place with Crappy New Double-Sided Tape.
