A youngster in a murdered-out AMG GT with "MLNNIAL" vanity plates and I both exhibited a stunning amount of self-control on the freeway early this morning - which was nice, since it prevented me from being publicly humiliated by said Mercedes.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

Unreal. I can't wait to drag it outside and put the thing on Craigslist...some assembly required!!

BUT, after a couple of days of just moving the 996 out onto the driveway to clear the garage for painting and this....cabinetry project....I took it out for about a 15 mile spin. After warm-up I went to my favorite on-ramp for a short blast without concern for any merging traffic. Not that there was any. Mighty sparse traffic out there, which I guess is good.

So...no human contact...just a quick drive and back into isolation. I did notice a HUGE police presence, though. I got to thinking that due to the extraordinary measures imposed by government, there are a LOT of police officers out there that are NOT making their monthly quota of citations, which affects the city coffers. SO, they are looking for anything and everything - so be aware that even when you head to a permitted activity, you are a potential target. Make sure that those tail lights are in good working order. ;)
Have had the Turbro out a couple of times per week, keeping in mind that there are less targets for the police. So far, so good, though

You know, assuming the weather is nice next Saturday morning, I think I might just go out to Pegah's at 7:00 am, order a carryout breakfast and sit in a folding chair behind my car and eat my breakfast. I will take a couple of small cones and block off the parking stalls on either side of me. If someone else happens to show up at the same time and do the same thing, I'd have somebody to visit with, from a safe distance, of course. Just sayin'.
I’d be happy to join you, but Kansas is a bit of a haul.
We did take the ole girl to a local state park the other day to enjoy a socially distanced nature walk. Top down even!

Good for you. Sounds like Ohio is going to be one of the first states to open back up, at least according to the news snippet I saw earlier this week. Just don't stray into Michigan!

I tried against a GLC63 AMG a couple of days ago.
The gap he pulled on me, you could have parallel parked a city bus.

We had an E55 AMG for a couple of years. Nothing more fun than dusting the Mustang next to me with my wife and kids along for the ride. (in a totally safe manner up to the speed limit, of course)

After the last DIY oil change, I took the 996 to my trusted shop to have it done - along with an over-due brake fluid replacement. They shuttled me back home and picked me up when the car was done - very cool. I had asked them to get Driven DT40 oil, since that's what I've been using. The memo must have been lost, as when I picked the car up the ticket said they'd filled it with Mobil 1. At least they used the filter I brought. Need more lead time for ordering DT40 apparently --- duly noted.

SO, the next 6 months I'll run Mobil 1 and then take 9 quarts of Driven DT40 with me next time -or give the shop enough time to order it in.

This next part is all Raby's fault :)

The instrument panel oil level showed over full. Hmmm. So, I let the car sit overnight and checked the dipstick. Ever so slightly above full. Damn. I decided to drain a little myself. They had put the aluminum billet LN drain plug back in so tight that I could not budge it with a ratchet and long bar. I lodged a complaint and the shop offered to drain some out for me. The hassle of taking the car back just to have that done was too much, so...I assembled my own oil extractor with a clean piece of aquarium air line hose and a 30ml plastic syringe. :) Ounce by ounce, I took out enough to get the dipstick reading I wanted: slightly below half, as I plan to add a 4oz shot of ZDDP when it arrives today. This should get the job done until the next oil change in October.

The moral is that even with a Porsche-certifed shop, not everyone is in tune to the various foibles of the M-96 motor. Thanks again to Jake and Flat 6 for educating me on the care and feeding of a reasonably healthy M-96 [with an LN IMS ;) ]

Along the same cheap extractor line, with on-hand items: turkey baster with bulb glued to maintain suction. Reusable, and the sig oth will probably never miss it. And next Thanksgiving everyone at your table will wonder why the gravy has hints of zinc and molybdenum with the sage.

Parsley, sage, rosemary and...zinc. 8-)

Our former turkey baster is now a dedicated coolant extractor for those times the level in the overflow bottle needs adjusting after any system work.
