Actually the 996 is a bastardized Audi TT mixed with a bastardized Mk4 Jetta with some Corrado, 964 and 928 parts thrown in for good measure. If you have a Turbo you get more 964 parts; if you have a NA car you get more Boxster parts.

All cars are bastardized versions of other older models, no way to get around it without starting completely from scratch (Tesla). I think even Honda now builds Civic and Accord on the same chassis.

Hey! I'll have you know my wheels and steering wheel have 993 part numbers! That means I should be able to get at least $50k for it even in the current condition right? Right?

The fugly-ass stock 4-spoke rubber steering wheel was DEFINITELY a mower holdover...straight off a lawn tractor...

With regret, I said goodbye. The last year has been very nice. The car has been everything I hoped for...the best of the 996s and 997 and 964 that I have owned. Maybe even equal to my 993. But after a year as a daily driver on the streets of LA, for me it proved not be the right car. The streets in Los Angeles have degraded so much over the years that it felt like I was beating the car to death. And the bloated, ever-increasing traffic only added to the misery.

Get out of town, on the highway, and it was wonderful, carving through curves, it was great. But those roads aren't happening enough in my life. I was definitely right to buy it. For a guy with nowhere to go, I put just over 3,500 miles on it in my year of ownership. And now I move on.

What is the replacement John?

Went back to an Alfa Giulia. I know that I screamed and yelled about the modern car technology...so I got a base model with zero options (and less nanny stuff to defeat). It seems unphased by the crappy streets in LA, and it does have very good driving performance.

Those are great cars. I know they had some gremlins when new, but once those are sorted, I'll bet it's great to drive. Don't be a stranger just because you got rid of the 996.

I'll still hang around...the 996 is an amazing car. There was nothing wrong with mine...driving it in LA took the fun out of it. I'm selling it through the same dealer I bought it from...NuVo Trade down in Newport Beach. It will probably go to BaT...they seem to have a large 996 fan base, and the prices there reflect the quality of what they offer. I'm happy to say I took excellent care of it. Never needed anything serious, but if something came up, it got dealt with promptly. God knows, I won't be surprised if I end up back in one sometime in the future.

Hate to see you move on from another 996, but totally understand what you mean about "crappy LA" roads. hahaha Maybe you should join the thousands that are vacating that state and just keep the 996 around. Being on my third Porsche, I fully understand what the mix of tight suspension and crappy roads can do to the riding experience. Can get very bouncy at times and hard on the back. Fortunately, Georgia doesn't have the same problem as LA unless you go up to the rural areas where there are still dirt roads, but most of the main highways are well maintained overall.

Well, whatever you ultimately chose to do, don't be a stranger around here.
