Yep. The daily driver Ford Explorer went in for an oil change at my mechanic. "Bad news. You have a rear caliper leaking fluid. That means you need to change the caliper and pads. And on the opposite side as well. We can do it for $800." Quick Google search finds YouTube video. Go online to order Ford parts at Advance Auto for $163. Easy install on a Saturday afternoon, complete with bleeding the brakes. Took about 3 hours because beer breaks.
KC's DIY "Break Job"
Step 1 - Take a "break", drink a beer and plan out the steps between breaks
Step 2 - Jack the truck up and remove tires
Step 3 - Take a "break", drink a beer and look at the calipers. At this point it's time to put on your game face!
Step 4 - Open "break" fluid reservoir cap
Step 5 - Take a "break" and drink a beer think about much you love saying the words "Good Week" in RL :D
Step 6 - Pry open pads and remove calipers
Step 7 - Take a "break" to go pee. Return for a cold one while thinking about finally removing those silly Christmas lights off the 996TT.
Step 8 - Remove the calipers and sit and look at the rotors while sipping' on a beer. This is your happy place, why rush a good thing? lol
Step 9 - Install new calipers/pads but before torquing them... go to Step 10
Step 10 - Take a "break", drink a beer, and wonder why Kalash was wearing two pair of sunglasses on his shirt on a overcast day.
Step 11 - Torque calipers and hook up a fluid bleeder/pressure system to the fluid reservoir
Step 12 - Feeling a little light headed from all the beer, you stumbled to a bush to release your overfilled bladder while thinking about Cuda - a man with a new 991 and lifetime supply of hot sauce. What else could a man want in life? :P
Step 13 - You approach the fluid reservoir and pump enough pressure to bleed the system. You pump, pump, pump that thing... but with every pump you start having weird sexual fantasies until your wife comes to check what the banging noises were. "What are you doing to that my car?!" 8-) She yells! (quick sober) "Ah nothing hunni! I promise, it's all innocent out here in the garage!" you exclaim.
Step 14 - Take another "break", sip a beer, and wonder what the hell came over yourself. You think, "It could have been worse. I could've shown up on YouTube" ha!
Step 15 - Mount... (coughs) I mean... Reinstall the wheels and go for a test drive.

^ I know that you are using hyperbole, but unfortunately that's closer to the actual sequence of events than you probably think. :D

And, one year ago right now, I was in the middle of a 1 month "vacation" on Rennlist (dammit) for typing those 2 magic words.

Nice! Figure it as the parts have to acclimate to their new home, a couple months is fine...if it bleeds into years then they tend to pick up garage curmudgeon characteristics. Have some parts that have been waiting over a decade to go onto the car , just getting around to some of them on the Corrado :o

I learned about the little red pop out thingy in the fuse box to open the frunk when your battery dies.

I'm gonna remove the Christmas lights tonight (held on with electrical tape). Should be able to get that done in 3 hours and 6 beers (more or less).

I have done some very, very simple jobs on the new Porsche so some of my hesitation is that I'm afraid to screw something up (like breaking the filler tube) so I keep putting it off. Just have to take the plunge.
Fear not. Super easy job, and a good confidence builder. Just remember to loosen the nuts on the bottom at the engine hanger before removing the top bolts (three per mount).

The snow started today, along with the city laying down enough salt to replicate Bonneville, so no Saturday drive to the Porsche Club breakfast tomorrow. Instead, I'm putting a couple more coats of Bead Maker on the old dog. Nice to spend a little time on it, even though the garage is a disaster. Some day I'll get it all sorted.
