Watching the Wheeler Dealers episode last night, my wife said, "I thought your car was a 996?" I said it was.
"Then how come they keep calling it a 911?"
"Well, 996 is the internal designation that Porsche uses, and it helps us tell one series of 911 from another and..."

My able-bodied son had time to help me with a project that I'd been putting off for a while: all four wheels off for a decent cleaning...fenderwells, too. We picked a good day. Started a little cool, but warmed up enough to get the hose out. Jacking the thing up was an adventure. Even with the tutorial on Pelican Parts, it was still a challenge to get the jack positioned such that the car came up with enough room to slide in a stand at the prescribed jack point. I discovered that the left-rear jack point was actually bent in a little. How does that happen? [not that I really want to know]
Getting the wheels off the hubs actually took a block of wood and The Hammer of Thor. Also, my new DeWalt 300 Ft. Lb rattle gun would not remove the lugs. It took a breaker bar and both of us on some. Hmm. Someone got a little too aggressive when they put these wheels on. 
After the clean up was done in the wheel wells I applied some anti-seize, something that I would have thought my top-notch Porsche shop would have done. The wheel wells cleaned up nice and I dressed the plastic liners with tire dressing to preserve the look....for a few weeks....or days.....whatever-it looks better!
Wheel well before & after:
My son Matt did all the heavy stuff: scrubbing the rubber, the wheels, drying everything, using some matte detail spray on the wheels before applying Chemical Guys Jet Seal Matte to the wheels; front and back.
I chickened out on using the Gyeon Q2 Rim ceramic coating that I bought. The time involved to get everything perfect and then the whole "don't make a mistake" application process [which also would have included gloves and a recommended respirator] switched my thinking back to the Jet Seal.
Anyway, all four went back carefully on and we torqued to 95 ft. lb. I took a short drive of 5 miles or so, came home and re-torqued to be sure.
Glad it's done - now the car goes back into the garage and I start on the body. The birds were very disrepectful while the car was in the driveway.

Drove the 996 to the weekly breakfast. Huge turnout today. We totally overwhelmed the restaurant...which they love. Lots of lawnmower iron today too

Speedway Motors Museum is freakin’ awesome. They are great people also. They sent a crew down to help us set up the KC Auto Museum back in 2014 when we first opened. I got to meet Speedy Bill back in 2013, about a year before he died. He was a funny and interesting old guy.
