Macan Without a Sunroof

Post by FRUNKenstein » Fri Sep 22, 2023 7:43 am

So, what's the consensus on a Macan GTS without a sunroof? There's a nice 2017 GTS for sale at the local dealers' auction on Tuesday. Seal grey over black with 18-way sport seats. Has the GTS goodies. But, no sunroof.

On the MacanForum.com website, most people say they want a sunroof and it will hurt resale. But, a fair number point out the advantages to no sunroof:
-better headroom, especially in the back seat
-no worries about the sunroof breaking down
-no worries about rattles
-couple of other ones as well that are pretty minor (low Cg for example)

I don't want to buy it and get stuck with it, though. Like a house with a swimming pool - supposedly 95% of homebuyers will not consider a house with a pool, but the 5% that do consider it a huge plus.

Would you consider buying a pre-owned Macan without a sunroof?

I like sunroofs but usually only use the popup position. Too hot/too noisy to have it fully open. I have also gotten comfortable with the Honda not having one. If I ever considered a Macan the lack of a sunroof would not dissuade me. Some people wouldn't buy it without and some people would, so...

We once owned a car ('85 Honda Prelude) with a sunroof. We enjoyed it for what it was, but we won't buy a car with a sunroof again. Aside from the mechanical vulnerabilities you noted, we didn't see the value for the upcharge paid.

FWIW when we were looking to replace Her Majesty's SUV with a new vehicle, we looked at Macans, but only those without sunroofs. In the end we bought an F-150, which is a far more practical vehicle for our country place. And no, it does not have a sunroof!

Frankly I don't give a rats ass for a sunroof. I virtually never use a sunroof, other than to pop it open on a hot day to let the hot air out.

Loved my 986 and rag tops are different . My 996 Targa is basically a big sunroof and a $15k repair if it breaks. I can't remember the last time I actually opened it as its super noisy driving with it open

Thanks for the input so far. After seeing the replies, I went out to check the vehicle out. It was in very nice condition, but does clearly have the Timing Chain Cover oil leaks (very common problem on the 2015-18 Macans). Plus, it was being sold "As Is" and the front underbelly tray that was previously in the back of the car was missing (they obviously removed it due to the oil leaks). So, the car should have gone pretty reasonably, and I decided this morning that I'd bid on the car. I was the second highest bidder on it. Problem is, the seller thinks its worth a lot more than it is. So, unless it's at the auction next week and the seller lowers his reserve, I won't be getting it.

The wife had a 1981 Prelude when I met her. I loved that car sunroof and all.(she's not too bad either)

I bought my '85 new as a college graduation present to myself. It was a great car. We had it for 15 years and drove the heck out of it. We gifted it to our daughter's nanny when we moved overseas, and IIRC it provided her with several more years of service.

So I got busy and missed the sunroof delete Macan yesterday. I don’t think it got any bids as there wasn’t a notation that it was an “If” bid (meaning it got bids but didn’t meet reserve). I bought a ‘17 Turbo out of Dallas today, so I am not looking to buy another at the moment. I will continue to watch it, though. The one I bought today had been run through 4 weeks in a row, and they rejected offers in those weeks that were higher than what I paid today. So maybe the market needs to beat down the sunroof delete Macan seller just a little more.
