991.1 pricing
991.1 pricing
So first off, I adore my humble little 996 and don’t plan on selling her anytime soon. Most likely will drive her until she explodes for glory. But seeing early 991 prices drop to the mid to low fifties has me thinking. Perhaps in a few more years they will be down to low 40s? That and the idea that I should be making more money has me pondering the idea of upgrading past the 997 to a 991. Also turning over the idea of if I do make that jump my 996 might get stripped out and turned into a track rat. What do you guys think? Is anyone else tempted by the glory of depreciation?

Well, my friend "B-Ran" (what kind of name is that anyway? hahaha), it all boils down to what satisfies your itch in life. You'll never find a U-Haul being pulled by a hearse, but nothing wrong with buying some "man toys" along the way as long as they don't become a sickening idol, right? Just look at Cuda and all his cars if you want to see what happens to the mind on drugs and alcohol. The mind is a terrible thing to waste B-ran! hahahaha j/k
Seriously, if you ever want to upgrade to the 991 someday, more power to you. But you have to ask yourself before you hand over that extra $$$, "Can I *really* afford it and will this be worth it?" Can I get the same trills without the extra financial sacrifice like with a 997 or different 996?
Remember, the grass is NOT always greener on the other side, it's GREEN where YOU fertilize it! Word to ya mama!

Re: 991.1 pricing
Changing the air filter apparently requires removing the rear bumper. That says all I need to know about the possibility of owning a 991...
I may not do much DIY stuff, but as well as ruling myself out of doing it, it also implies significant charges for someone else to do it for me.
It's just ridiculous that MFGs (and Porsche is far from alone) make the simple and routine tasks such a PITA to perform.

Re: 991.1 pricing
I'll definitely own a 991 someday. Not anytime soon, but someday. It is all dependent on the depreciation curve (inverted). When I bought my 964 in 2003, 964s were cheap. 996s were not cheap. I sold my 964 in 2008, when they were still cheap. In 2018, 964s are not so cheap. But, 996s are cheap. So, I own a 996. And yes, I realize what that says about me. Someday, when the 994 model is new, the 991s will be cheap and the red-headed stepchild of the Porsche world (after all, you have to remove the rear bumper to replace the air filter, right?). That's when I'll POUNCE!

Yeah, that was a crazy deal. We didn't talk about it in the local PCA at all.gnat wrote: ↑Fri Mar 09, 2018 1:36 pm Well there is ONE in your area that should be pretty cheap: https://jalopnik.com/shop-owner-smashes ... 1792973207

Well I'm glad to see I'm not the most anal retentive mod around here!
I did think of moving this thread to the 991 forum, but I figured there was enough 996 content to not bother. Guess some jackbooted mod is too uptight today!

Re: 991.1 pricing
The “can I really afford it” is a good question. Obviously if I were a smarter man I would drive a Kia or something similarly cheap and dependable. But I am a red blooded fool, so I drive a small German sports car because it gives me the fizz. Also I think life is too short to be completely sensible and prudent.b3freak wrote: ↑Fri Mar 09, 2018 11:14 am Well, my friend "B-Ran" (what kind of name is that anyway? hahaha), it all boils down to what satisfies your itch in life. Would a 991 satisfy me that much more than my car currently does? I don’t know. I do know that if they depreciated down into the low 40s or so I would jump on it. If the engine in my car goes, my twenty thousand dollar car turns into darn near a forty thousand dollar car, unless I retrofit it with hamsters spinning wheels to power it...
Also though after maybe fifteen minutes of solid googling I couldn’t find any forum posts about 991s blowing up! Fucking crazy! Who buys a car that doesn’t explode??
