got around to re-sizing some pics of building the first exhaust.
I'm currently working on a second version with another one of the same mufflers, but split open and re-designed on the inside to try and reduce the drone and cavitation I have when hwy cruising in top gear.
Sure many companies build exhausts for the 996 and I'm sure most sound great and have pretty welds..but I enjoy the process and satisfaction I get from extreme DIY building and fab.
here's the start, within a month of first buying it

The other day to fix a rattle I heard on start up I investigated the timing chain tensioners. I discovered that the IMS tensioner, and the cyl 1-3 tensioner were swapped, apparently when the IMS bearing was replaced with an LN Engineering one at 168k miles in 2014 in TX.
When I got the new tensioners (bought all 3, haven't replaced the hardest one yet) I pulled out the cyl 1-3 tensioner and found signs of friction wear on the piston and could tell it was giving up. I found it just in time I guess. Swapped out both of the easy to reach tensioners.
Did an oil/filter change at the same time and all is well now. My plan is to drop the engine and refresh it at 200k. I figure by then she'll have earned it.

i'm a wheel whore.. and before I bought the 996 I even had adaptors made to run Porsche wheels on my Infiniti G35 coupe. I have a set of solid spoke C4S twists in hiding too
Those silver 5 spoke are 993 spec Japanese market Enkei RC5 Racing Line Carrera wheels. Hollow spoke and rare in 18" and even lighter than the BBS made hollow 996 turbo twists.
