RL Thread on Fuel Wash and Injectors

A RL thread that’s not completely content free:

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/1 ... oller.html

Interesting commentary from Charles Navarro and JR regarding cause and effect of over-rich conditions ... cracked plastic, failed injectors, etc. Some of the usual gloom and doom, but IMO worth a read anyway.

Yea, I guess the consensus now is to avoid cleaning an/or rebuilding old injectors, but instead, purchase brand new OEM or Bosch injectors. Never have a shop "tune" these cars, and last but not least, avoid modern fuels. hahaha

As expensive as these engines are, new Bosch injectors might be cheap insurance overall. There really are some crap fuels out there. I had a truck driver tell me recently, they’d haul diesel then gasoline in the same tanker and just top it off no draining or cleaning. You can only fill the ground tank to capacity too so you could have lots of residual. Also ethanol has shown time and again to be horrible in gasoline engines. It’s not just a Porsche problem.

I guess Jake put the phone back on the wall...

I definitely can visualize a "defective" spray pattern washing oil off the cylinder walls and causing accelerated wear. Whether it actually happens is hard to say. Being a mechanical engineer...I could visualize 996 different ways any engine could blow up. We should just ride bikes.

What I don't understand is all the gnashing of teeth about injector costs!? New Bosch at approx $30 seems very reasonable. What am I missing?

It's more entertaining to bitch and moan about the M96 than to shrug it off as the cost of Porsche ownership.
I just finished spending over $6k on the 951 last month for normal wear items:
- TB/WP
- Assorted belts, hoses and rollers to go along with TB/WP
- Clutch
- Fuel lines
- Motor mounts
- Fuel filter

I get that, but somehow still feel like the 951 is worth it

How many Le Vian chocolate diamonds did you have to give her to get this list approved? :D
