This coming weekend and as I've been playing a lot of Mario Kart so I'm thinking of switching to the Advanced group as I don't think DT can teach me anything at this point!

I'm at the track Friday - Sunday. Friday is Friday at the Track, SP's in house program. Saturday and Sunday is TrackDaze. I have gnat on Saturday and on Sunday a 16 year old who I worked with at VIR is making the trip in for the day. In between I have to shake down the BoMX5ter and make sure it works.

I reset the timing today and test drive two felt better (butt dyno!) than the first one. It still idles kinda crappy but I think that's a result of some sensors we deleted for simplicity. It doesn't idle much anyway so not too concerned.

It's true, but so would you if he took you out in his Miata and then started touching your hand "randomly" during the next session in your car

Things I learned:
1) DT is as big of a dick in person as online.
2) Don't talk about turn signals while approaching a corner.
3) Spirited street driving is EXACTLY like driving on the track.
4) a 50% failure rate of 996s isn't bad when it's your 996 that survives the day.
6) A stock 996 (that looks like a GT3) is obviously better than a real 997 GT3 as it didn't have to be towed back to the pit/paddock.
7) based on the number of Miatas present, the Hairdresser Circuit is a very popular series.

Lol.

Gnat was amazing. He went from which side of the track am I supposed to be on? to "this fucker needs to point me by!!!!" in about 50 minutes of track time.

He did amazing and I think he had a good time.

He might not have enjoyed riding with me. I definitely gave him the "I'm pretty sure we're about to die" version.

It is true that I had to literally hold gnats hand at one point today. #nocontextforyou

It was a "learning experience"

I'm not saying I expected to end up up side down a couple of times, but I'm not not saying it :P

It was actually your "slow" laps that got to me the most. After that I was pretty good with it. Most of my demeanor was just trying to keep my leg off the transmission tunnel. You weren't kidding that bastard gets hot!!!

In all seriousness though, great day with DT and I'm glad we could connect (he had to swap with another instructor). Good guy and lots of very good tips and guidance. Definitely recommend a day with him if you happen to get the chance.

As far as the car, after 18 years I'm realizing how little I know about it. The funny part was that at times I had to fight it to do what DT was telling me because it was screaming "stop holding me back you fucker! I can do SOOOO much more!"

DT, I think, is giving me too much credit. At least at my completely novice level it was just a combination of looking up (so I wasn't getting nervous about the current corner) and just letting the car do it's thing. The thing really felt like it was driving itself at those times I managed to relax.
