I just got my first "Hey, we're gonna renew your domain" reminder for this joint.
I had no 6-month or 1-year plan beyond trying to jam a flag into this otherwise worthless piece of Internet real estate and claim it in the name of the spirit of the car sites of days gone by...places where that margin between "having fun" and "being a dick" wasn't a razor-thin line but a huge gray area. The loosely-defined and mostly unregulated parts of the Internet have always been the most fun to me - like the comments section at cheezburger.com, full of bitter assholes who do nothing but complain about how much better things used to be back when cheezburger actually wrote content instead of reheating last year's institutional-kitchen-grade memes, or the folks who enjoyed the irreverence of sites like fuckedcompany.com and homestarrunner.com, the former being the site of Pud, the Colbert of the dotcom implosion era and the latter being the best goddamn cartoon ever made and F**K YOU for disagreeing with me.
To those of you who joined me early on, thanks for coming and thanks for sticking around.
To those of you who have contributed a LOT of your time to moderate new users, nuke posters when they try to sell us porn in French, and PM me every time GoDaddy breaks something else: thanks for your time and effort.
To those of you who have contributed financially - thank you. I didn't go into this expecting any help with the bills, but the extra cash has made it possible to increase the Google AdWords spend and get the site far enough up in the search results to generate some interest.
And to those of you who found this place and took the time to join, log in, poke around, and maybe even post up every now and again: thanks for your interest in the 996 (and all of those other Porsches too, I suppose!) and for spending some of your ever-more-scattered online time here.
Right, that's enough sentimental bullshit. I have "real" work to do...
