Even with the brutally slow disk performance (my SSD died abruptly, so I had to install the OS on a spinning disk like a damn Luddite), the Windows 10 upgrade plus tinkering with some of the tuning parameters in the Radeon Crimson software yielded some respectable results for a rig that is WAY past its prime:

The max possible score is 9.9. The Direct3D result surprised me given the "vintage" Radeon 6800HD series card with a paltry 1GB of dedicated video RAM, overclocked to 800MHz with the memory speed jacked up to 1050MHz. I need to get STEAM reinstalled and see what the frame rates look like, but...pretty stoked that this old dog still wants to hunt.
