It has been "sort of" fixed by Porsche. No need to cover it as long as you only use special imported Porsche-approved water for washing. I've ordered 10 cases.

Keep in mind that you can't just switch to Porsche water directly from conventional water - you'll need to wash the car with Porsche water at least three times, with very brief intervals between washes, to "clean" the conventional water from your Porsche.
Also, if you plan to drive your car at the track, you'll want to wash it with Porsche water before and after each event. The additive load REALLY gets blown out quickly when the paint is exposed to spirited driving.
There's a guy in Texas with DRUMS of that lightly-used Porsche water...ask around.

Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

After 3 weeks of ownership, here are my impressions:
Loving the 991. Of course, it is a very different car from my 996. The 996 is much more of a direct-feel driving experience. You can feel every bit of what the car is doing, and adjust for it. Lots of track time really refines that. My 996 has zero nannies other than ABS, so any screw-ups I make are totally up to me to correct for. With the 991, I'm pretty sure that Siri is taking care of everything, and I'm just along for the ride.
We have a '14 Cayman with PDK, so driving the 991 feels familiar, but with a ton more power. Plus, I have all the bells and whistles on the 991. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus combined with Active Suspension Management (with pitch, roll, and yaw monitoring and management) and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control anyone? Amazing how it handles in the curves! Makes any Bozo look like a good driver. Very glad that I learned performance driving on much simpler cars than the 991.
Also, my 991 is much lower (it has the sport suspension, which is 10 mm lower than stock suspension) than the 996 or Cayman, so I'm finding some challenge using it as a daily driver since the chin spoiler scrapes on every little bump, inclined driveway, etc. Impossible to go a day without several bottom scrapes on the front lip. Never had any issue like that with the 996 or Cayman.
I am finding that my 991 gets much better gas mileage than my 996, if I drive it like a little old lady. If I push it (which I tend to do), mileage is much worse. I need to eventually arrive at a good balance in my driving habits. I was able to eke out nearly 29 miles per gallon in the 991 by driving as conservatively as I could (freeway), but I am only averaging about 12-14 mpg driving in sport plus and keeping the revs up. Had so much fun with the car the first few days that my first tank of gas averaged only 10 mpg.
I really love the interior of the 991 MUCH more than the 996, and finally I have a radio that works.... plus 12 speakers!
With 400 HP and all the electronics, the 991 cruises so effortlessly that I have to constantly keep looking at the speedometer to know how fast I am going. Like with turbos, much of the car's performance is far beyond what can be reasonably be used on the streets. Looking forward to trying the 991 on the track a few times, but it will not be my track car. I have my track Boxster to abuse there.

Is it wrong that I like the lines on the 996 better (even if it has the MkII lights and no aerokit)? The 991 is a nice looking car, but it's progressed the flattening that started with the 996 to a point I think it is starting to lose that iconic look.
Frunky is right though, you can put a 356 coupe next to a 991 and there is no question that one was derived from the other. There are few other cars in the world where the design heritage has stayed so true over 70 years!
