Just wanted to pass on a pretty cool online class on the topic of UOA (i.e. used oil analysis) that will be presented by Jake Raby and Lake Speed.

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...
Jake had a low miles 2004 C4S that was just dropped off at the shop from a local customer a couple of days before the scheduled shoot. It had all the classic symptoms of bore scoring (i.e. tail pipe soot, abnormal smoking at startup, oil consumption, and ticking on bank#2) and we all agreed it would be a better candidate for the video. So the video is actually diagnosing that car in real time.
He looked and listened to my car and it didn't have the ticking sounds, smoke, or abnormal oil consumption. The soot could be from leak down from aging fuel injectors. But Raby said he'd still be happy to put my car on the lift and bore scope it, but I said "That's cool, we can do it another time". I'll also add the misfires are more than likely from aging coil packs. Jake told me he would also help change those out. (I've never done that job before) No surprise Jake has better ears to distinguish between normal sounds and bore scoring ticking sounds. He uses "electronic ears" (i.e. stethoscope) for pin pointing the sounds.
The video is going to be a much watch. I was excited to see it unfold.

Sounds like good news on your car!! If Jake thinks coils and guns I would go for it!b3freak wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2019 11:31 amJake had a low miles 2004 C4S that was just dropped off at the shop from a local customer a couple of days before the scheduled shoot. Watch Jake's video on measuring crank case vacuum to check your AOS.

hahaha... don't overreact and become hypersensitive with your car. Could just be a little extra fuel left in the cylinders. Mine does it.
The next bore scoring video form Jake Raby is about to go live TODAY. It's a detailed look at all the common symptoms of bore scoring.
Stay tuned!!!
