Here ya go boys.... Ebony and Ivory!
Does that look black to you? Once you go black, you never go back! ha!
(forgive my twisted humor, but I'm trying to keep my spirits up until Raby posts his opinion)

Did you use a finger to wipe the inside of the tailpipe to see if appreciable difference in consistency? Pics are different in lighting so looks could be deceiving here, besides the passenger side need to be adjusted horizontally.
Attached it a full size photo with more light on the pipe. If I wipe my finger inside of the tailpipe of course I'm going to get black soot on it. The other looks more brown with a rusted texture. I must also mention that the last time I washed the car, I chrome polished the chrome tips. Even with polishing them, they still have a weird patina around the edge.

In the interest of just getting this off my mind, here are mine. I think they look fine.
Your pipes look similar to my right tailpipe, but of a different design. You have a more consistent brown patina. I guess that is a positive, huh?

I feel like that's surface rust, which is what we want, not soot. I haven't, uh, fingered it yet. But I assume very little will come off because it looks pretty dry.

Wait, so now we have to finger the sump and the tailpipe?
Only if the tailpipe is a sooty tailpipe!
Never gonna make you cry...

I dunno. Let's see what the Meister says. I will say and will post, when I get the car back, that both of your pipes look better than mine.

Oceanblue2000,
Yours look fine... That looks like a left over '99 car with those small tailpipes.. These are usually great engines, if its the original. I see some 2000 models like this from time to time.
B3,
You are not so lucky. What are you doing this weekend? I am shooting videos on bore scoring, and I need to use your car. It may be a better example than the one I have here now. Maybe we can scope it and check it out at the same time.

Wow, good news from the man himself. This is a nice start to the day. It's an early-build (I believe) 2000. I love this car to death.

B3, it doesn't matter what you thought you were doing this weekend. You are now going to see Jake!
Don't be like that dingus out west that totally pissed away a similar offer from Jake to help with his engine!

First of all... Ouch!
Second of all, the car is yours!
We have a three day weekend. You're aware of my background and would be happy to offer my skills with the production too. If you prefer, send me a PM here on the Outpost or on Facebook.
Thanks, Jake!
