Apple engineer killed in Tesla SUV crash on Silicon Valley freeway was playing videogame: NTSB
Associated Press
The March 23, 2018, crash occurred on U.S. Highway 101 in Mountain View, Calif.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Transportation Safety Board says the driver of a Tesla SUV who died in a Silicon Valley crash two years ago was playing a videogame on his smartphone at the time.
Chairman Robert Sumwalt said at the start of a hearing Tuesday that partially automated driving systems like Tesla’s Autopilot cannot drive themselves. Yet he says drivers continue to use them without paying attention. He says the board made recommendations to six automobile makers in 2017 to stop the problem and only Tesla has failed to respond.

Update from the 2018 dude accident finding the concrete wall. Video game...and I find the last three lines very revealing.
Never gonna make you cry...
Re: Another Tesla driver idiot...
It's worse than that. Apparently the idiot had complained that while on auto pilot the car swerved in that same location multiple times prior to the accident.
So not only is he an idiot for not paying attention like he was supposed to. He went Full Retard by not paying attention in an area he KNEW the car didn't act correctly.
Idiot got what he deserved as far as I'm concerned.

Most if not all automatic driving systems seem to have gremlins in them. Cars freaking out in curves, line breaks, traffic pattern shifts etc.
And most of those AI cars are driving on flawless roads with near perfect weather. We are still a long way away from functional self driving car.

Yeah I read an article in the last week that revealed that the self-driving focus would probably shift to shipping vehicles rather than personal vehicles in the foreseeable future. Just what I want is to be sailing down the interstate with a bunch of semis with the driver looked at pron rather than paying attention to the road!

Re: Another Tesla driver idiot...
It’s gonna suck until the cars are meshed. Maybe longer, but each car operating as a stand-alone node instead of a cluster member is computationally stupid.

Yeah and the car industry is soooo good about network security that nothing could possibly go wrong with networked cars...

This. Because cars on the road today are not self driving cars, despite any level of autonomy. Calling the system "Autopilot" is disingenuous and in my mind the semantics behind this are one of the biggest contributors to the issue. What the layman doesn't know is; Autopilot on an aircraft is being continuously monitored by TWO PILOTS. They don't whip out their Galaxy 11's to play Stardew Valley while you're cruising at 36,000 ft.

Absolutely Right. They aren't playing on their phones. They are actually taking naps.Dr_Strangelove (whew!) wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 11:37 amKalashnikov wrote: ↑Tue Feb 25, 2020 3:24 pm We are still a long way away from functional self driving car.

Don't forget to fellate - er, inflate - the autopilot.
