Re: My 2002 996 "renovation" thread
here you go as an example, pic from this morning vs. old
I'm a restomod lover, and I loathe the 'bro it's 100% original, even the oil' mentality. I want to drive cars, sometimes hard, and raise hell while Clapton or Hendrix go nuts on the gee-tar. That's why I bought a Carrera, to have fun. So a momo or similar would just be another step in that direction. My work commute is 5 miles through side streets & I have a commuter car, so there's no need to keep my 996 as a long distance commuter. Giving it a little bite is good, especially where mods are reversible and/or liked by many enthusiasts. I probably go over that line here & there, but if the situation arose it could be presented as a well-kept mostly stock car.

Re: great job
Much, much better than stock... IMHO! Love the silver console, dash, and gauge trim. Great job! Awesome!

ty - I enjoy it a bit more now with the updates.
focal points for me in modding:
- overall finish inside & out
- suspension quality & overall handling
- where possible, free up engine breathing in/out but not so much it becomes a police magnet
About 80% of the way to the promised land. Just a bit of suspension & paintwork to finish (ha!)
Anyway, it's exciting to see you have a similar journey ahead. Embrace the $$ pain as it will bring years of fun!

Re: My 2002 996 "renovation" thread
There's a 997 driver on RL called ATSR who has the Prototipo and a custom wood shift knob from Mexico and I LOVE his interior. Here is his car:SealGrauWailer wrote: ↑Thu Feb 08, 2018 8:36 am So a momo or similar would just be another step in that direction.

Re: My 2002 996 "renovation" thread
After opening the driver side door panel to locate a vibrating sound problem (which turned out to be the regulator that was NOT tightened down), I began removing all the old bubbled tint. The previous owner-moron that installed the glued sound system probably also installed the tint? Why ... sloppy job. And, to make matters worse, they tinted the front glass which is illegal in many states including Gawga! ugh. Guess my Saturday morning will be taken up finishing this job. Next, will be to finish the console and install new brake pads and rotors. I'll be glad when I can take this thing out for a long drive.

contrast of black carpet IMHO makes the all grey interior look better

Re: pancakes and car stuff
Saturday morning was spent making pancakes for all of my daughter's friends that spent the night to celebrate her 16th birthday. After they were happy and fed, I began removing the remainder of the tint on the car. Removing the actually tint was easy (came off fast with a heat gun and razor blade), but the glue left behind was more troublesome to remove. While I removed the tint, I noticed many scrapes and cuts on the trim panels... more evidence that the last owner(s) did not have any care for doing things with patience and accuracy. After removing the tint, I installed the replacement console. Fit perfectly now that all the junk for the sloppy stereo install was removed. Now, all that's left is the two side carpet pieces. That will come next week. But even though it was raining, I took the car out for a nice spirited drive. Yay!!! So much fun!

Re: carpet side pieces installed
Got the carpet side pieces for the lower center console. Complete! Yay!
The next thing on my list is to replace the rotors and brakes. They're shot and showing a "brake wear" warning on my dash. I've also noticed the the paint is coming off the calipers this may be due to it's time in Florida, but what's weird, the engine and suspension component look clean without any corrosion or rust. Anyway, I'll plan to repaint them glossy black and hopefully find some more Porsche vinyl letters. Anybody know whos sells them?
