I got an email response with several more pictures and apology stating that due to the response, he was raising his asking price from $10,000 to $15,000. I don’t really blame him as the $10,000 price was low - I would have just paid him full asking price for it. But, at $15,000, meh, it’s no rush. I can get that car at that price anytime. I might shoot him an offer of $11,000 and see what happens as that’s still a good deal. But, I will not lose any sleep missing out on that car.
Pics from the ad at PCA.org:
I hate to be snarky, but...You post the car in PCA with a price and now because someone shows interest you jack the price $5K!? What's up with that? One would think that a club member would research his car for a proper price point prior to posting. I would walk based just on principal, but that's just me.

"It's not the cars it's the people..."
I'd report it to PCA and try to get the ad removed myself, especially if the ad hasn't been updated.

Definitely a dick move by the seller.

Yeah, that was my initial reaction. But, this is an older gentleman who has had this car for 38 years. He is using his daughter to send out pictures via email because he's elderly. He probably isn't familiar with how to check the internet for pricing. He doesn't have it listed on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.

I thought about it overnight and sent him a nice email with a contingent offer of $10,000 (contingent on the wife approving and the hellhole/longs being solid). Honestly, based on the additional pictures and the fact that it is a Wisconsin car, it would not surprise me if he accepted my offer. First, I told him I'd drive up next weekend to pickup the car in person. Plus, the car is far from perfect - it's got a lot of little warts and surface rust. This is definitely a driver quality car and it's clearly got some oil leaks as well. The "top dollar bidders" are not going to be all over this car - it is going to be dealers trying to steal it most likely. I don't think it is a $15,000 car - I think it's more like a $12,000 car.

If I get it, then great because I get one of the 2 best years and the second best engine (next to the 6 cylinder) and buy from a longtime owner all for $10,000. If I don't get it, then the search continues.

Frunk if you manage to make your trip with your son overlap with the last Sunday of the month - I'll take you to the local 914 (& other air cooled) meet here in downtown Vegas. It's a small meet but filled with cool people. They are always stoked to see my 996 which is gracious of them.

Edit: I knew I had a pic lying around somewhere.

Maybe a 912...

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

He's a contrarian investor... Michael Burry of Porsche world. Haven't had his big break so far, but you watch. In 10 years those 914s and 928s will be worth 5 millions each*.

*Disclaimer. New camry in 2033 will be worth $32,500,000 due to dollar devaluation from Powell hyperinflation.
