2017 base...
My friend is looking at 2017 base with 40k miles.
Any things to look for that are problematic on the car?

Re: 2017 base...
That should still be a 958.2 I believe.
There were some issues with the 958.1 V8s, but I think that was fixed for the .2s (thought the Turbo had the last remaining V8). There was also the diesel fiasco that straddles the facelift.
Unlike S, GTS, and Hybrid, the base kept it's NA VW VR6 through facelift. It's basically the same VR6 that has been in the Cayenne since the early years so it is long in the tooth, but it is has never shown issues like the various Porsche engines. Being a VW power plant also means you can save maintenance costs by using VW parts for most things.
Some people think the VR6 is underpowered (and it was for the older 955s and 957s which were heavier). As long as he doesn't get suckered into driving a higher powered model, he should find it acceptable. I've only driven the base and my diesel and while I like my diesel better, I still believe I would have been happy with the Base if the diesel hadn't come out when it did.
Beyond the power plant I've been happy with my .1 as it has been nice and reliable.

Cool, thanks. He just sent me the Carfax and I see two red flags. Dash repair at 13k miles and 2nd owner who had it for 2 months.
The brand new car having console repaired rings airbag deployment for me.

Re: 2017 base...
Those items are not necessarily a problem but need checked out further. The console could have just been something swapped out under warranty - maybe some bad wood pieces or something. An airbag seems unlikely - but I guess anything is possible. The two-month owner may have been a dealer depending on how they process titles in Arizona. Both things need checked out but that should be easy with a phone call if the car is nice otherwise.Kalashnikov wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 4:49 pm Cool, thanks. Re: 2017 base...
I told him to get the PPI if he is comfortable with the Carfax issues and wants to move further. The Porsche shop I used back in the day serviced his last audi a few times after I recommended that he takes it there, so he has some rapport and relationship to the shop owner who can give him a lowdown on the car.
Will keep you posted.

Re: 2017 base...
I agree with Daryll about Carfax. I've seen some really wonky things with ownership reporting. I have a personal friend that simply purchased a BMW diesel wagon off lease (his lease,) and the Carfax reports 4 owners due to all of the paperwork passing through different hands. I'd be willing to bet the 2 month owner is a dealership or auction yard.

He didn't get the cayenne. Going after 2016 panamera S now. Ordering PPI on it.

Re: 2017 base...
^^. One of my good friends has a 2014 Panamera 4 that he bought from a dealer CPO. Loves it - the only oddball thing was his had the factory 18” wheels and there were no all-season tires available for it (he is in the Chicago area). So he ended up going to 19” Victor wheels - apparently there are lots of decent all seasons in 19” size in that diameter.
Otherwise he has been very happy with it - had it now three years or so.

Is that Cayenne slammed? Seems a bit lower than I expected.
