I wonder if the 996 parts are no longer available or harder to get. I also wonder if you could use a 997 radiator on a 996 as there are other parts (shifters, for example) where you a 997 part will fit.

The 997 radiators are side-specific and have different pipe setups, so I suspect the mounting points are also 997 unique. Iā€™m currently checking to see if CSF side rads would be enough of an upgrade to the 6sp cooling system by themselves.

Warehouse 33 has the CSFs for $405 a side. Plus a 10% RL discount (take that RL) puts those at $365ish...not a bad price when Behr 996 versions go for around $250 ea.

My indy is a fan (ha!) of the CSF radiators. Swapping both stock radiators for CSFs plus cleaning out all the gack that accumulates at the interface of the radiators and aircon condensers would certainly boost cooling performance.

I once had an issue with one of two fans in a 308 having the wires crisscrossed so that when it came on, it ran in reverse and blocked air flow rather than aiding it. This totally defeated the second fan that was wired correctly. Speed did cool it down...but maybe your fans are reversed and stopping airflow rather than aiding it. When you just look at them you see them spinning...but you should check if they are spinning in the right direction.

Update!

My radiator finally arrived and its been installed. I also just changed my oil from Mobil 1 0/40 to Driven 5/40. The motor is definitely running alot cooler (about 10 deg) and my oil pressure is way up too (about 1 bar over any given rpm). These readings were done on 90 deg day in stop and go traffic.

The fires up along Angeles Crust have kept me from putting a real test to it, but I am pretty sure all will go well.

For those hot running motors with weakish oil pressure, I strongly suggest giving these mods a try.

Good luck!!!

Glad to hear the mods worked, and thanks for circling back to give us the outcome. Definitely helps the guys who have the same issue later.
