What wheels are these?

Post by foxleen » Wed Jul 15, 2020 2:47 pm

Hello! I am looking at a 1999 Carrera to buy and it has these wheels. I don't think they are the Hollow-spoke Turbo Twist rims that the car is optioned with, but I can't figure out which rims they are. They look close to the turbo twists but not exact. Is it just the angle and lighting or does someone know which rims these are?

Definitely not hollow twists. I'm pretty sure that they aren't even factory wheels.

They resemble the stock wheels from my 1999 C2. Not hollow spoke.

It's really hard to tell with those photos. I was thinking maybe Boxster twists, but the photo quality makes it nearly impossible to judge.

The lip step is much more pronounced in the photos in the original post than the ones Einsteiger posted.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

This looks like the same wheel. I had better luck when I changed my search from 18" to 17". They looked small. Described as OEM Porsche Boxster (986) 17" wheel. I have to assume they were sold on the non-S.

Those are definitely the rims. Thanks, @Dr_Strangelove (whew!).

This car has too many incongruities, I’m passing.

This is my first post here - as I’m in the market for my first 996 - and I greatly appreciate the quick, thoughtful response!

Great to have you here and posting! There are several people here who are always looking at what's for sale out there. Like gnat said, let us know kind of what interests you and we can be on the lookout - year, coupe or cabriolet, color, etc.

Here's a link to a search engine that will search Facebook marketplace nationwide, along with ebay and other for sale websites:

https://cultcars.us/cgi-bin/listings.cg ... e+996&loc=

It isn't perfect, but I'm using it in my 914 search and it uncovers cars that I haven't found looking elsewhere.

Where are you looking? Someone here might be close and get eyes on candidates. I was looking across the country so I used a craigslist aggregator, but feel free to post anything you need an opinion on.

A pre-purchase inspection is a must. These cars are not exactly hen's teeth, so in general follow your head and not your heart. Seems like you've got the right attitude already.
