Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

Oceanblue2000, Yours look fine... That looks like a left over '99 car with those small tailpipes.. These are usually great engines, if its the original. I see some 2000 models like this from time to time. B3, You are not so lucky. What are you doing this weekend? I am shooting videos on bore scoring...

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

No... That was "Liquid Death" Anyway, most of this damage has been done over years by fuel, operating conditions, and long oil service intervals. What you do for oil right now is like a smoker throwing his smokes away at age 80 after a heart attack. It ain't gonna help that much... I don'...

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

You also asked what oil I was running. I said Mobil1 0w40. The you looked at me and said “liquid gas!?” or something like that. No... That was "Liquid Death" Anyway, most of this damage has been done over years by fuel, operating conditions, and long oil service intervals. What you do for...

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

I don't remember noticing them sooty either time.. That first time we met when I was in my 912E I had the crap bothered out of me because I drove a Porsche and had to play 20 questions... The second time I drove a tank, and didn't get bothered. Both pipes looked the same, but I do remember that I th...

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

B3,
When I ran into you at Athens Cars and Coffee a couple months ago they weren't sooty??

Yes, I look at the tailpipes of every 996/997 that I see... Sometimes I will turn around to go get behind them, just so I can get a peek at their pipes!

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

Today no failure is more prominent, on top of Billy's call today, I just finished a consult with a Canadian, 2003 C4S, 64K miles... He starts off in the live chat on the site "Hello, my car runs fine, but it uses 1Lt of oil every 1,000km. I have changed the AOS with no improvement" I resp...

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

I remember seeing information about the IMS bearing situation for years, but is the bore-scoring problem something that was recently discovered? Or have I been under that virtual rock on that topic? Quite the contrary. Bore scoring is the oldest of all known M96/M97 engines failures. On my list of ...

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

The atmosphere here is much different than Rennlist. I watched here for a while before thinking of posting. I was pretty much non- existent on RL for about 2 years. I would sometimes check in once every 2-3 months. Jud, my GM would sometimes chime in, and sometimes he would say "hey someone on ...

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...

Guys, I added a signature to end the questions. To keep things simple, and without issues I am likely going to just watch threads and send messages to those whom I believe I can help independently. This forum seems a lot more level- headed than others, so maybe it'll work out. I spoke to Billy today...
