Re: How your 996 has changed your driving / 996 performance driving tips

My 996 is a very early model and only has ABS, which I like. My 03 Turbo had PASM, and I found it intrusive, even in the "off" mode. I removed the mufflers from my 996 and find that the car handles really well, despite the rear weight bias. Those mufflers weigh over 30lbs each! Suspension-...

Looks like a fun drive. I take Angeles Crest up from the 210 a lot and looking for another route to explore. Your drive sounds like fun. Do you go all the way to Mt. Baldy or do you turn around afterwhile? CHP lurking? Bikes? I may go check it out b/c Angeles Crest is still closed. Thanks!!

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

Update! My radiator finally arrived and its been installed. I also just changed my oil from Mobil 1 0/40 to Driven 5/40. The motor is definitely running alot cooler (about 10 deg) and my oil pressure is way up too (about 1 bar over any given rpm). These readings were done on 90 deg day in stop and g...

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

Wow that's almost half the price I paid, not including shipping. Hopefully others looking will purchase that unit and save big $$$.

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

Thank you. I ordered the 3rd radiator kit from Pelican Parts. Turns out the radiator is back ordered. Late August estimated delivery. There are several used OEM and new Chinese radiators on Ebay, but Im gonna wait for the CSF unit.

Wider wheels?

Hi All,

I currently have the stock wheels (18" 993 Turbo Tech Hollow Spoke) on my 99 Carrera, and I am interested in getting a wider set of 18"s. I don't know if they are even available. Did the 996 C4S or Turbo have wider wheels? If so, what are the widths? Thanks in advance.

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

Yes, Im gonna get the 3rd radiator installed, along with the 160 stat. My indy recommends this as well. He says all of the Boxter spec racers run them too. thank you.

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

Agreed. Thinner, high altitude air cannot cool as well. Indeed that may be the issue here. Thanks everyone for your input. I will double check the stat and fans though. Easy and cheap enough to rule those out.

Re: 996 Carrera running hot!

Yep, I will double check the stat. Thank you. BTW, airflow should not be a problem as I'm in 3rd and 4th almost the entire 40 mi. I have tracked other cars and I would say this is a similar scenario to track time.
