Thankfully, many local police depts. as well as highway patrol are still using KA for the most part. I turn off the laser bands when I'm driving near home...

Another feature I like on the Beltronics unit in my 996 is the "advanced" threat display mode that shows the number of discrete sources and the strength for each one.

If it's a newer Volvo, then it's the "City Safety" technology which uses laser to determine the distance of your car vs. objects in front of you. I've been using Bell and Escort since I bought my Volvo S60 and rarely do I have false laser alerts and if I do, it's because it's bouncing off cars in front of me. Scares the fool out of me sometimes... pull up to car at a stop light and BZZZZZzzZZZZzzzZZZZZZZzzZZZZ (women's voice "Laser Alert!") BZZZzZzzzzzzzZZZZzzzzZ!!!!!

HAHAHA! Did the first time cause you to slam on the brake pedal like mad?
Almost pissed my pants! Took several minutes to get my heart back down to a normal rate.

yea, fortunately the current LIDAR technology requires the source to be stationary. Cops probably prefer to move location because of Waze and other network apps. The new digital KA is wicked. Not as detectable from long distances and a more concentrated signal to pinpoint the source. The old KA can be detected from long distances over a mile or more line of sight, but newer digital KA... not so much so.

I have a stealth installed V1 with the display built into the rearview mirror. It was there when I bought the car. I never could find where the V1 was mounted until a few months ago. It only took me 8 years. It was behind the back seats under the pop-up roll bar cover in my cabriolet. There are remote sensors inconspicuously mounted to the windshield. I was finally able to update it to the newest version, which cut down the false alarms dramatically. The circled area is the K-40 display (front and back). I don't think the K-40 is very useful and may disconnect that eventually.
