Buy a Cayenne and replace the Porsche logo with a Jeep logo?

Sometimes people just need to be tricked ;)

We kicked around the idea of a Porsche, and we checked out a few Audis and VWs.

The underlying dilemma is the guarantee that it's going to get beat up and kicked around on a regular basis. I specifically went with the Cherokee because we wanted an affordable vehicle to beat on without feeling guilty. It may not have any oomph to spare, but finding a mid-size 4x4 SUV that weighs less than 2 tons is damn near impossible. I don't remember the makes/models, but we saw a couple of rigs that don't make appreciably more power than the Cheroke that were closing in on 2.5-3 tons. Our old X5 diesel was useless off-road because gravity...

Yeah but the Jeep probably won't keep your key if the battery is dead! In fact it probably has a push button start so the key device stays in one's pocket.

If you haven't, watch AvE's teardown of the same angle-of-attack hardware Boeing decided was robust enough to not need redundancy (unless you are willing to pay more...). The guy - who calls himself "bumblefuck" - is awesome.

Seems pretty clear that FAA inspectors are REALLY impressed by machined metal cases.

Love that guy and that is some scary shit! Brother in law is a retired engineer from Boeing. While not the Max he left just before Boeing started putting the DreamLiner into production and he only raises his eyebrows and smiles when I ask him about the plane! For him that is not a good sign. Years ago when flying back from NY on a fairly new 757 I was astonished at how tail happy that plane was. I flew quite bit for business and knew airplanes. It was unsettling. Airbus scares the shit out of me and I have no use for the MD80(noisy bitches). Maybe I should just quit flying!

My brother does software design and QA for Boeing (he writes and tests code for ancient avionics - nothing to do with the MAX), and he isn't saying boo. I suspect there have been internal management-led discussions about how being discreet and remaining employed aren't all that different.
