Good comments. I have about 5 minutes on the new flux core welder; I definitely don’t have the settings dialed in yet...or the technique. That welder is a lot like my 996 - any performance issues are definitely the fault of the operator.

Understeer: You will hit the wall with the front end.
Oversteer: You will hit the wall with the rear end.
Horsepower: How hard you will hit the wall.
Torque: How far you will move the wall.

Gone hunting with Alec Baldwin and Dick Cheney. Back soon.

Those would clean up with a flap disc, but I was just using a wire wheel to knock off the slag last night. I’m going to cheat and pick up a can of anti-spatter spray...

An angle grinder is a welder's best friend as it hides all by the worst mistakes ;)

Yeah...I was lazy last night and didn't pull out the grinders. I keep a flap disc on one and a death wheel on the other...

Wait, I thought spray paint was a welder's best friend.

Just don't be like the geniuses in my welding class at Job Corps that thought it was great fun to stop a spinning angle grinder with their (gloved) hand. I'll leave the results to the imagination, but the lead asshole got what he deserved in the end and I got a good (if morbid) laugh at his expense.

This is great stuff because I really would love to learn to weld. It's on my list and probably next. General wrenching and then advanced wrenching came first.

I know this is different than a angle grinder but Holy Shit!
NPPD employee impaled by rebar while clearing brush near Firth is now stable

A 46-year-old Lincoln man seriously injured in a workplace accident Thursday afternoon near Firth now was in stable condition on Friday morning, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.

Chief Deputy Todd Duncan said Roger Kempf, an employee with the Nebraska Public Power District, had been clearing brush from beneath power lines at David Drive and South 82nd Street when it happened at about 2:45 p.m.

He said one of Kemp's co-workers was operating a Cat Track Loader with a front-mounted disk grinder when the disk grinder struck a piece of rebar from an electric fence post at least 2 feet long that was concealed in the brush.

Duncan said the disk grinder launched the steel post and it flew about 60 yards, striking Kempf in the lower back at a high velocity.

He was taken by StarCare to a hospital in Lincoln where he underwent surgery to have the rebar removed.

I watched part of a YouTube video years ago where some dipshit decided he was going to "overpower" the 8" chuck on his lathe with his strengthy arm. Fortunately, it just tossed him over the lathe and across the shop rather than ripping his arm off and/or pulverizing the bones...

My pop is consulting on a case where an operator's loose shirt got wrapped up in a 20-foot (!) lathe. Things didn't end well for the guy.

*edit* Not the video I was thinking of - but here's another genius.

More practice today - made a "rectangular cuboid" out of 1/8" plate. Sucked incrementally less than last time with both the welder and plasma cutter...

I got tired of grinding out and filling mistakes. So I quit.
