Xbox for 10 yo grand son

Post by 32wildbilly » Mon Jul 13, 2020 8:02 am

All you gamers out there I need an opinion. The upcoming BD of one of my grandsons is this month(same day as mine!). He has an ancient Xbox that his parents say is not as good as it once was, won't play so of the new stuff right and thinks he needs a more updated version which is probably factual. He is not a huge gamer and started out with Minecraft, but I'm sure he progressed during the pandemic.

I've read the info about Xbox1 and XboxS and am still cornfused!(I know shocking...right?)

Any opinions?

My 20 year old just got the hot new gaming system, I think it's called Nintendo Switch. I think that's what the kids want now.

Nintendo has apparently been making serious bank from the CV pandemic. Sales of the Switch apparently exploded during the lock downs.

We like our Switch and have had it for 1.5 years now. As we aren't serious gamers it's a good fit, though they have been getting more of the "serious" type games for the system as well so they are trying to capture some of that market too.

My only real complaint with Nintendo is that moving to their new generation console means you either lose all the games you had for the previous console, or you have to keep it around and hook it up when you want to play the old games.

Billy there is about to be a new Xbox called the Series X coming out this holiday season. The Xbox One and Xbox S are great systems but are about to become obsolete. Just FYI. Check with his parents to see if he has/wants a Switch. If he doesn't I bet he does want one and you'd be a hero Grandpa for getting him one.

Make sure his parents look into Roblox closely. My son's friends play it and he really wants to, but I won't let him. They have had FAR too many incidences of child predators and general asshats (basically making animated porn) for my tastes.

From the Roblox site, supported platforms include "iOS and Android, to Mac, PC, Xbox One, Oculus Rift, and HTC Vive."
