It's a Good Week in the Macan Forum

The focus of this website is the 996 series of Porsche. But, soon after this 996 website was created, we realized that there was a desire for discussion of other Porsche models here. Many of us own other models of Porsche, so we created a subforum for each of the other models.

The purpose of this thread is to give you Macan guys a place to develop some camaraderie. It's OK to post non-technical stuff here. And because it's annoying to have a technical thread get littered with jokes and such, let's try to keep that non-technical stuff here and out of the other threads in this subforum.

Apparently there are not many Macan owners that frequent the Outpost. I've been thinking about selling the 13' ML350 and getting a smaller SUV for a variety of reasons. The Macan must be a keeper, as there are very few used ones for sale except at dealers. The two owners that I know locally are still madly in love with theirs.

But for what I want out of an SUV, I should get a Toyota Rav4 and spend the $40K saved to get an old lawnmower 911 to play with. Hard to justify $60K for a Macan.

A friend got a used one about a year ago and still loves it. The loaners I've had when the P!g was in for recalls were impressive.

My objection to them is the lack of really usable space in them. Like most "utility" vehicles these days, the D pillar is raked hard which ruins vertical space in the cargo area and the rear seats don't fold completely flat which can be annoying with some things.

It's fun and there is no doubt that it is a Porsche, but I agree that it's pricey. But all Porsches are way over priced when trying to look at them practically.

Macan's are great vehicles, but for an SUV I'd rather just get a Subaru and save the bucks.

Or get the Audi Q3 which is the same vehicle less some of the Porsche dynamics and cachet. My lady friend has a Q3 and it's very nice.

Kind of feel the same way - I prefer to have an SUV that can haul a lot of stuff and not have to worry if I skin up the interior. For example, I wouldn’t want to haul my dog around in a really nice SUV.

On the other hand, Kevin, if you buy one of the early Macans with some miles on it, then not so big of a deal. Let me know if you want to scout around the dealer auction listings, let me know. I would think we could find you something for a lot less than $60k.

I specifically bought the P!g to haul 3 50lb dogs around. It's just a car :P

I did buy it with no plans to sell it for 8-10 years at the least though (year 8 just finished in Nov). It's now tied for the longest I've ever owned a car and baring it being totaled it will hopefully take the crown. The good news is that I have zero interest in replacing it 8-)

I was sniffing around on the dealers' auction website. 2015 was the first year for the Macan. Looks like the wholesale value on one with around 75k miles is in the low $20's. I would have no problem hauling my dog around in a ~$20k SUV. There weren't many listed as coming up at auction. I think there were a total of 8 of them listed across the country on Manheim.com, and all were base models. 6 were 2018 models and 2 were 2017, all with pretty low mileage. Looked like it would take $30k to get the cheapest of those, and most were going to be around $34k to $37k. Not so sure Emma and her claws and teeth-that-like-to-chew would be welcome in a $40k SUV. Then again, we typically only keep a daily driver for 2 years before having to sell it.
