You are correct, it is a return line from the AOS. The inside diameter of the plastic fitting is smaller than the inside diameter of the hoses. The ID of his Home Depot hose splicer looks to be about the same as the ID of the hoses (the brass is thinner than the plastic, and the hoses are stretched a little to fit). So it seems plausible that the new fitting flows better — but I agree, it wouldn’t seem like a huge amount of coolant ought to be passing through there.

This whole thing started when my buddy was replacing his alternator and broke that stupid plastic thing. Maybe the new alternator has less drag and his water pump is working more effectively.

or it is just fully bled now.

I replaced mine when I installed the new alternator, it was a brass hose barb and I didn't like the tacked on look..zip ties to hold it back..etc. I bought a new fitting from RockAuto and it is the same as the OEM but aluminum, powdercoated black to look stock. no difference in temp before/after..didn't even think to check I.D.. just installed a better one that was made for it, and cheap too

I've upgraded that fitting to the fancy stainless fitting one. Can't say I noticed any improvement in coolant temps, but at least I can said I've solved failure mode 9482. The difference in head pressure between the two fittings is negligible, so the only gain to be had is one less heart attack every time you change the alternator or oil fill tube.

Maybe your buddy had air trapped in the coolant system and coincidentally burped the system when he replaced the fitting?

This is what I used to alleviate the concern over the constriction of water flow. Costs a bit more, but def worth it.

Thread going on at Rennlist (dammit).... many chiming in that they miss the Good Week thread. Gretch then belittles it in a very hypocritical manner.

Man, some of those people think the Good Week thread is the worst place to be on the internet. Wait till they discover 4chan.
