Several of them have used other detectors previously, including Escorts (sometimes side-by-side with the V1). They use only V1s now. I also use a V1 and would buy another without hesitation; performance trumps looks for me.
I have much respect for the Valentine company, but for me, it came down to the V1 or the Escort Redline. I went with the Redline. One thing I loved about the Redline is that it has different sounds for the various types (e.g. Ka vs K) of radar. The alerts are lower frequency and have very intention grabbing "grunts" instead of just beeps.

Does the new V1 have this feature or is it still the classic "beeps"?
The V1 has had different sounds for X, K, Ka, and later Laser since at least 98 when I first started using them. The sounds are also quite jarring and attention grabbing.

Track prep for the worthless 911. Worthless in a monetary sense, that is; no one wants a 911 with 180k and an automatic transmission even though it runs flawlessly. Better for me, I don't worry about lowering it's value by track driving or adding miles!
I cleaned the tire bits out of the inside of the wheels, inspected the suspension and CV joint boots, bled an ounce or two of brake fluid from each caliper, and we're ready to go on Wednesday.

After more research and talking to some friends who run detectors, I ended up going with the Valentine V1 Gen 2. I plan on hardwiring to the dome light and running a blend mount.

Ugh. Don't hack up wiring when there is no need!

Get a piggy back fuse adapter and install the power supply in the fuse box area or behind the dash. Then just run the cable up the windshield side of the A pillar (so it doesn't cross the airbag) and then tuck it under the head liner along the windshield to the detector.

Blendmount sells back probe connector kits. This allows you to back probe into existing connectors without having to split/cut wires. That being said, I just checked to see if there were any switched power sources going to the dome light and it looks like a no go. Only a constant 12v and one powered 12v when the door is open. I read that people had reliability issues when using sun roof motor power and I don't have a fancy rear view mirror with switched power, so it looks like I will be going to the fuse box or phone connector.

I power my V1 Gen 1 via Valentine's Savvy attachment, which takes its power from the OBD2 port. I run a cable from the Savvy along the A-pillar and headliner as Gnat described. The Savvy has a power port for the detector as well as one for Valentine's Bluetooth dongle (not needed for Gen 2).

The Savvy allows me to customize a speed threshold below which only the quieter volume is used. The Valentine phone App mimics this functionality, but if I don't pair my phone then the Savvy takes over.

hahaha... you see that?

Get this... I'm the only one in the entire parking lot taking a picture of the car and this kid comes up and asks, "Wow, is that YOUR car???"

What would be a clever answer to this very curious young enthusiast?
