Car shipping companies

Post by 32wildbilly » Fri Dec 07, 2018 6:59 am

Anybody have recommendations on a car shipping company. Might be shipping the kid's Type R from Indiana to Nebraska. Also thoughts on open load compared to closed load. Necessary?

Thanks

No recommendations on companies.
As far as open load vs closed load, the dealer I work for gets cars delivered at least 4 times a day. E Class AMG's and up get shipped enclosed, everything else, open. Even the regular S classes.

Personally, I would go closed. Better protection and sometimes a higher class of driver. All the enclosed trailers that come thru are always carrying something crazy and those drivers respect their loads a lot more than the open guys.

OK. I think it's definitely time we start the 996Outpost car delivery service!

The funny thing is that I would probably do it.
Oooh. Instead of putting that all on one person, we could setup a relay chain. It could go through all the board members where each only has to drive it a relatively short distance.

I have shipped several cars over the years. I have only used enclosed one time and that was because the shipping company upgraded for free. I've never had a problem with an open shipment. If the price difference was minimal, I'd say fine, but if it is 30% more, then I'd go open. I mean, we're talking about a Honda Type R, right?

Seems like I normally end up using Reliable Auto Transport. One tip - if you type your contact info into one of those automatic bid generators online, you will be hounded incessantly for the next month by phone and email.

Thanks. The Type R is an @ $35k car so nowhere near an E class AMG, but I'm leaning towards enclosed cause I'm sure your dealer has access to more insurance coverage than I do.

They do, but you don't want the million dollar deductible to go with it.
