Apparently, adding a security camera makes you at least 20% more dickish. :D

Great job Mr. Watson, your deductive skills are exemplary! 👍
Video security is the way to go. I have three cameras on our place in the mountains; at home, just one camera plus a Ring video doorbell.

If you are looking to add a first device, I can't recommend Ring highly enough. The device is really well built, it's designed to be powered by the shitty doorbell transformer you probably already have installed in your house, but it can also be powered via USB or solar. In addition to the video doorbell functionality, it's also got motion detection built-in; you can adjust the motion sensitivity, including which areas do and don't respond to motion, disable it on a schedule, or disable it entirely.

The cool part: As soon as Ring notices motion, it starts recording and uploading the video to the Ring service. By the time someone notices you have a video doorbell, the video has already been shot and stored...

Finally, if someone is jacking shit from your porch, you can share the video to other Ring users that are geographically nearby - like an opt-in digitally-powered neighborhood watch.

The system I got me has same options too. It has motion detection and immediately sends me phond alerts. The timeline is marked with motion events automatically. Also, there is a online backup.

Nice. IP cameras are dirt cheap, but there's a TON of crap out there...plus most of the camera control software for Android is absolute garbage...

I haven't taken the plunge on any kind of whole-house wired security/DVR - the wireless stuff is ALMOST there, but it's hard to beat once you've dealt with the install issues.

How'd you get your wires pulled?

Holesaw, inspection Camera, fishing line... Rinse and repeat. Then spackle and repaint the holes.

Not as bad as I thought. I had the color matched paint, so decided to assault my walls and ceiling with 1 1/4 inch hole saw about every 6 feet.

Exterior camera was the painful one, as I had to get through the stucco. I didn't know that stucco had metal web in it, so when I started getting sparks from holesaw I was rather surprised. Then my overzealous drilling almost ignited the wall, as it started smoking from friction. I extinguished it.... By grabbing a glass of water, and spitting that water in the hole 4" from the ceiling.

Heh. Yeah, that metal lath (or chicken wire, depending on how ghetto the contractor) can suck. At least the lath didn't wrap around the bit and rip stucco off the wall...

Yeah, I hate when a hole busts into fire from the friction...

As long as your drill bit is sufficiently hardened and you have some lubrication handy, you can power right through the situation.
