Awesome!b3freak wrote: ↑Wed Apr 03, 2019 7:38 am A lot of people have been sending messages to Flat 6 Innovations about when the bore scoping video will be released. Rest assured, it's been recorded and currently in post production. The plan is to make it live on YouTube next week as Part 4 of the series.
As we used to say... STAY TUNED!!!!

My engine:
The noise: Yep
The soot: Yep
The oil consumption: Yep
The dark oil: Yep(however, never did see any sparklies)
The misfire codes: Yep
The #6 plug contaminated: Yep
The scoring as viewed from the plug holes: Yep(5&6 cylinders)
JACK POT! I got them all!!
I can't wait for the "how to live with scoring" vid. However, my decision is already made. Can hardly with for the end of Sept.!!!!!

I work the next 30hr so won't know for sure until Tuesday.
No codes or power loss untill I saw the smoke in the rearview mirror. Left side was way worse than the right and that has me worried.
Screeching noise like a fan belt or baring failure.
It's all pointing to a failed AOS (fingers crossed so hard it hurts)

I've read about AOS failure squeals. Smoke heavier on one side, also. Keep the faith. Hope for the best...808Bill wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 7:23 amI work the next 30hr so won't know for sure until Tuesday.

Jake Raby has a fully reconstructed Stage One - 4.0L that was just finished and hasn't been spoken for yet. (I believe I actually saw it in the engine room during the last recordings)
I'm sure you'll want to cross the first bridge to see if your engine can be saved or not. But I'm pretty sure the 4.0L won't last long once it's publicly posted for sale.
Just let him know one way or the other.
Cheers!

Re: Bore Scoring! Who knows for whom the bell tolls...
When the AOS is going bad, the rubber diaphragm begins to rupture causing a squealing noise. Similar to someone slowly releasing air out of a pumped up balloon.
Try this...
With the engine running, loosen the oil filler cap. This will change pressure in the crank case and should make the noise disappear if it's the AOS. Of course, if you had a manometer you could confirm immediately.
